I picked up Fasth a week or so ago and have been targeting Hiller's owner in a trade. Here's her Roster:

With RHN's slow start, and her other center's performing so well, I thought there might be a chance to snag him before he turns things around (especially since Skinner is now out again with a concussion). She said she'd be open to moving him but it would take a significant deal and mentioned maybe something like Seguin +. I'm not keen on giving up Seguin, so I was thinking of Getzlaf & Fasth for RNH +. But is this a good move for me or am I putting too much stock in RNH's unproven long term potential? Getzlaf has been frustrating to own for the past 2 years, so I'm a bit snake-bitten from keeping him year after year. I feel like RNH isn't the type of guy that is available all the time, so if he's an upgrade over Getzlaf, it might make sense to take a shot at getting him. I'm not concerned about including Fasth and what I'd get back for him (he's such a wildcard and I wouldn't hold on to him after this year, so I'm looking to sell high and can pick up Dallas's backups to replace him until Lethonen is back). Throwing him in is more of a way to try and keep her from wanting Seguin / Kane or any other of my top wingers. What do you guys think...is RHN worth going after if it's going to take Getzlaf (or more) to get him?

if you arent willing to give her that you better find a way to completely blow her away

when i am asked what i want and someone comes back with a trade that doesnt include that unless i am reaming them in the trade i have zero interest in continuing negotiations

give her a few scenerios of what you think would be fair. see if you are on the same page.

In a keeper or dynasty league, RNH's value may be "low" only in a theoretical sense of the term, never in a practical sense. Therefore, his extreme-high upside will always shadow him in trade negotiations, despite any offensive slump.

There's a reason she targeted Seguin and not Getz, and it lies w/in your scoring cats. But for the BLK, all other cats are geared toward pure offensive minded forwards. If hits and PIMs were in there you may stand a chance w/Getz, but he probably won't cut it in this instance.

Id rather have Seguin or Getzlaf than RNH, but Im not as high on RNH as some others. Also RNH looks to be even more of an assist heavy player than Getzlaf which doesnt bode well for this pool.

If she is in win now mode, perhaps Getz works. But she is stacked at C and can readily afford to sit on RNH. I just think the hype is higher on RNH, and perception is reality when it comes to trades like these. Maybe throw her a stud RW instead.

EDIT: ...yeah that's why she wants Seguin. Just looked. She's old at that position, wants some youth there.

With Skinner out indefinitely with a concussion and the complete mess of a goaltending situation she has right now, I was hoping to capitalize on those needs at the moment. She was last year's runner up so I think she's still in a win now, which is why I was thinking of Getz + Fasth as a way to fill her short term needs. What everyone's saying about her wanting Seguin totally makes sense, and it's a fair return to ask. I'm just higher on Seguin than RNH and it would throw my roster out of whack by giving up a top wing to bring in another center. At the end of the day, maybe I'm trying to force a trade when there isn't much of a need for me to grab him. RNH's upside does proceed him but I just didn't want to miss out on an opportunity to grab someone before they take off.

you are asking for her underperforming young stud it makes sense she wants your underperforming young stud in return

you went into this looking for a buy low opportunity however given what she asked she made it clear she has no interest in selling low

perhaps you are right perhaps you are better served walking away because your initial reason for making the deal isnt there

Probably just answered your own question, right there. Also, if she is not in "win now" mode offering her another center doesn't help her team. Not to the same level as a RW-er would, anyway. The value per se may be fair (arguable, of course), but the context of "how does this help my team" always has to be considered too.

$3 may be a more than fair price on the open market for a gallon of milk, but you're gonna be S.O.L. as a milk salseman knocking on a dairy farmers door.
