Thumbs up Mikael Granlund

Hey guys!

Looking for some general info on the OLDER of the Granlund brothers. I caught a little bit of the Avs/Wild game last night and he played well, but didn't really stand out. Can any of you offer some insight into how he has looked the rest of the year? At this point, is he considered a legitimate contender for the Calder over other rookie standouts?

Is his upside still around 90 points?

Any information is appreciated!

So did some digging and found a decent thread over on hfboards about Mr. Granlund:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1348327

Many seem to think his play is improving, and while not putting up eye-popping stats, he is still playing a solid NHL game despite missing significant time in November due to an ankle injury.

Patience, patience, patience, I suppose!

Some posters remarked on his adjustment to the smaller ice rink. Before, he was able to slow down as soon as he entered the zone and would let the play develop around himself where his excellent passing ability enabled him to thread-the-needle and generate offense. Initially, he was doing this over and over, so the more physical defenders were able to push him off the puck on the smaller ice. He's begun to move his feet more and more, and is doing much better because of it.

I'm on the patience train with this guy too. I may have been in the minority when I predicted he wouldn't blow the top off the NHL when he walked in. The reason I thought this is because few rookies do. He has decent numbers for a rookie and I believe that he'll continue to adjust and his output will follow. It'd be nice to see a Tarasenko type of Wow out of Granlund but, like I said, this is pretty rare.

Go see what Teemu Selanne had to say about Granlund :

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/191389941.html

It takes time for a rookie to come in the league. Everybody says he had a really average start but he still has 5 pts in the season and Galchenuyk has 8. Only 3 more and everybody says this kid is the real deal.

i think you have to be patient.

i might be able to land him, whats his upside in a year? in three?

Do you think Minny's defensive style of play hamper his offensive output? Or are the times a changing in Minny and they are going to move to a more offensive game plan, helping Ganlund.
