Studs & Duds

STUDS

"Jiri-ka": Jiri Tlusty just may have found his game last night. He finished with an impressive 4pts: 2G,2A on 4 shots and a +4. He's been relatively quiet on the year after showing signs last year that he could possibly be a breakout candidate for this season. Playing on a line with E. Staal and Semin can do wonders for a player's stat line. The question is, can Jiri build on this performance, or will nights like this be an uncommon occurrence?

"Mr. Big Shot": Who do I think I am? Well, I'm Alex Friggin Semin, that's who. And I'm a big reason why Mr. Tlusty had 4pts last night. All I did was put up 3pts: 1G,2A on 2 shots with a +4 on the night all while scoring my 200th career goal and going Ivan Drago: "I must break you!"

"Raking Leaf": Matt Frattin is a BEAST!! He had his 3rd mult-point performance of the season with 2pts: 1G,1A with a +2 on 3 shots. If you're not counting, you should be, especially you owners in goal-heavy leagues. That's 10pts, 7 of which being goals, in 10 games. If he keeps it up, he will quickly exit sleeper status. If you snooze, you lose. If he's on your ww, pick him up already!

Honorable Mention:

Ben Scrivens - It's difficult to come in a game cold. But to make 32 saves, get the "W" and post a .970sv% -- PRICELESS!

Shane Doan with his 175th multi-point game: 2G,1A with 1 of his goals being the game winner.

Duds

"Oh, how the mighty have fallen!": If you were a betting man and had to choose between Team "X", who is allowing an NHL low 1.82 goals a game, or Team "Y" who is 29th in scoring at 1.92 goals a game, odds are you would have gone with the experts and sided with Team "X". Well, the odds were in Team X's favor, and they lost! Team "X", The San Jose Sharks, came out of the gates with their hair on fire to start the season 7-0 in its first 7 games. If you own a Shark and can't recall the last time he scored, it may have to do with the fact that the entire team has put up a whopping 7 goals for the entire month of February! San Jose was staring down a bounce back game vs. the Jackets in this one. Instead, they blinked first and then got bounced by Columbus to the sobering score of 6-2, extending their losing streak from 4 games to 5. What's the over/under on San Jose losing the next two to even their record at .500?

"The Lonely Island": Your two big guns - Tavares with 1G,1A and Moulson with 2G,1A. Nice stat line. Oh wait. They both went -3. They weren't the only ones to do so. Including those two, the Islanders had 6 players who went -3. Three players had a -2. Seven players had a -1. I guess this makes M. Martin and C. Cizikas the bright spots with a zero in the +/-...?? You could say the entire team played like they had J-** In Their Pants:

"Gee-whiz Giroux": 0G, 0A two games in a row now. This is the 3rd time he's had back to back games with goose eggs. 13 games in, this marks his 7th scoreless game. Based on this pattern, he's do to score the next game. * Fingers crossed *

One signing off. Until next week.
