Default Studs & Duds - Sunday 2/10

Studs

“I am more than an average goalie!” Part 1– Jimmy Howard didn’t actually come out and say this because his play did all the talking for him. Howard has been a workhorse this season having started 11 of the 12 games for the Red Wings and he is starting to find his groove. After only giving up 1 goal the night before against the Oilers, Howard brought the LA Kings to their knees as he turned aside 45 of 47 shots in a 3-2 win.

“I am more than an average goalie!” Part 2 – Same can be said for Edmonton Oiler goal keeper Devan Dubnyk. The “a” in Devan must stand for “Awesome” as Dubnyk turned aside 39 of 40 shots that Columbus fired at him in a 3-1 win. Dubnyk has now gotten his team points in 6 out of the last 7 games that he has started.

“The little Devil in me” – Looks like David Clarkson might have sold his soul to the Devil last year after all. Many hockey experts believed Clarkson to be a one hit wonder like Sir Mix A-Lot’s - Baby got Back song, but Clarkson is proving to all the haters that he is indeed more than a goon as he scored his team leading 8th and 9th goals of the season Sunday.

Duds:

I would rather watch the Grammy’s – Both Tampa Bay goalie’s wished they had the night off to watch the Grammy’s instead of playing in their game against the New York Rangers. Mathieu Garon got the rare start but was pulled after giving up 3 goals on just 19 shots. Anders Lindbeck did not do much better as he gave up 2 goals on just 13 shots. Combined both these goalies gave up 5 goals on just 31 shots.

This isn’t golf people! – This goes out to Jack Johnson, Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, Matt Carle and Nate Thomson who all finished -3 or -4 on the night. To make matters worse all these golf pros failed to register a single point in what is the most important night in H2H leagues.

Music City Let Down – Not just one player but the whole team was singing the wrong tune. The Nashville Predators managed only 17 shots on goal against the NHL’s best team Sunday Night in losing 3-0.
