I fully agree with this sentiment. With all of the Sens depth another front line star piece pushes them into Cup contending and the way he plays is certainly a unique among the players in their top six. Of course, Perry fits on virtually every team in the league but you can certainly see the value in Ottawa. And if Parise/Suter tells us anything it's that guys want to go home.

Definitely. While I obviously wish for this to happen, I didn't just pluck this out of the air. This was passed on by a fairly reliable and decently connected person. Just that he's considering Ottawa if he goes to UFA. And I just thought it made a lot of sense for some of the reasons I already mentioned, but here's a full breakdown:

-Local ties. 3 and a half hours away from his hometown, Peterborough.
-Connection to Bryan and Tim Murray
-Less pressure (and better current and future team) than in Toronto if he wants to stay local.
-Ottawa's cap space, and the fact they have to sign somebody fairly big to reach the cap floor.
-He'll get to play with Spezza for a long time. Legit playmaking centre who is probably more skilled than Getzlaf = return to 50 goals potentially (although I think he peaked there). Where could he go with a more attractive piece at centre, who also has the cap space? Def not Toronto.
-Replacement on RW for Daniel Alfredsson as you mentioned.
-He played with Marc Methot for 4 years in London. Maybe they're buddies? No idea (update: confirmed friends).

Honestly, I think the 3 Top landing spots for im are Anaheim, Toronto, and Ottawa. Obviously I can't get into his mind, and I don't know if he actually cares about being close to home, but I can't think of any other teams right now to be in a potential Top 3 for him. Obviously Pittsburgh would be amazing for him, playing with Crosby...but do they have the space?

interesting...and I don't doubt it...as fantasy hockey analysts we often forget that these players are people just like us with motivations that might have nothing to do with the team or the league or the game itself even. Like I always wonder how often guys will choose to go some place because its near their family...like imagine you have family you are very tight with and maybe your Mom, Dad or your grandma gets sick or something like that...that's a huge motivating factor to play somewhere where you can be close to them. That's a more extreme example of course but you can imagine any number of other possibilities...reconnecting with old buddies, hooking up with an old flame, etc etc, its not always just about the money

Is he married, and where is his wife from? That plays a big role too, especially with Parise.

Also, a big factor, does he wear boxers or briefs?

The further north, boxers become the better option by far.

For someone who was bitching another Sens fan for so called "inside info" you're throwing the "word is" crap around pretty liberally.

unless you heard it from the horse's mouth, I would be careful what you throw out there...

That's like saying all black people are murderers, thiefs, or drug dealers just because you went to a prison and saw a shit load of blacks in for those crimes. You just can't make assumptions on what an individual wants based on what two others wanted. Sure he might choose that course for that reason but there are plenty of players out there who will make decisions based on other reasons.
