I know Elliott is a good goalie and everything, but we're not talking about choosing between Elliott, Dubnyk and Pavelac here. We're talking about King Henrik, Tuukka and the St Louis backup goalie in Elliott. Plus, the Penguins haven't exactly been lighting it up offensively this year. Granted, they have the firepower that they could come out and score 6 tonight. The chances of that happening against Lundqvist are about as likely as the chances of Elliott coming out and putting up a stinker. If it's me, I roll with my two top goalies tonight.

There are definitely times you roll with the matchups but I don't feel this is one of them.

Id start Rask anmd Elliott. I usually subscribe to the start your studs theory but I also dont ignore matchups ..... if Im flip-flopping on what to do I start my stud. I just think Pitt is due for a big night from either Malkin or Crosby or both and I could see them really being up for this game against the Rags, combine that with the loss of Callahan and I think I would stay away from the Rangers tonight. Just a hunch .....

I added some things to your quote that you left out.

Nice analysis Pengwin, I totally agree. I'd go Elliott over Hank too...and it's not even really close when you consider everything. Penguins could easily put up 5 or 6 goals tonight...Columbus what maybe 2?

This.

I'm a huge proponent of the "start your studs" school of thought, but nothing's 100% in fantasy hockey and you always have to evaluate each unique situation.

Lundqvist is the best goalie in the world, and the Pens are struggling, but STL vs CBJ is too sweet of a match-up to pass up on. That's as good as it gets in terms of lopsidedness... you've got a strong defensive team that's just rolling, you've got a decent goalie (albeit he's no Lundqvist), and you've got the shittiest offensive team in the league.

I wouldn't fault anyone for choosing to start King Henrik, ever, but if it were me I'd be sitting him tonight.

Numbers schnumbers.

There are situations when I use them, and others when I don't. This is one of those times where I would less likely to use them. To each their own. It may work out or it may not. I have my strategy and it can work out just fine - one strategy is not necessarily better than the other. You can analyse it all you want but on a given day anything can happen.

Oh just a quick comment on the shutout on the bench. It's not always foreseen, so I wouldn't kick myself as much if it were a 'lesser' goalie. But that's just me.

Anyway, we'll just agree to disagree.

Pfft, you can use statistic to prove anything :P

Like the fact that Elliott is only sporting a .875 SV% compared with Lundqvist's .905.

So no Mr Pengwin, not all the numbers are on your side.

Also, just for the record, Nashville, Colorado and Florida all are scoring less goals per game than Columbus, so they technically aren't "the worst offensive team in the NHL". But now I'm just being a prick

I would go with Elliot and Rask. Pitt. is due for a break-out and do not see Columbus winning this game against St Louis.

With Vanek out and as bad as Buffalo has been looking - this is a no brainer.
