I've had the Sierra ones before. The Pale Ale was meh... ok. The Torpedo is fairly good, not knock your socks off, but definitely good. Torpedo's dominant hop flavor comes from Citra hops. I have bought this beer a few times now.

How were the other ones you tried? Any standouts?

Chimay was of course good.

The Big Wave was actually surprisingly good despite it's mediocre BA rating.

Koko was definitely out there as far as being a different taste.

I'm rather new to these boards, so apologies if someone has brought it up before (it didn't appear so after a quick search), but Brooklyn Brewery has been a local treat for several years and I understand is starting to gain wider distribution.

http://brooklynbrewery.com/

Some notables if you're inclined to try are:

-Brooklyn Lager (really their flagship product, but not the best in my opinion)
-Brooklyn Pennant Ale (has a somewhat smaller but fanatical following 'round here); and
-The IPA (right in my sweet spot as a pale ale devotee)

I understand that they now do most of their brewing upstate due to NYC real estate costs -- but it's a closely held business so hopefully they keep the quality where it should be as distribution grows.

Cheers.

Saw this top 5 beer discussion on HBT today and thought that some of you might be keen to go through it and sample some of the recommendations.

I've had a few of the Brooklyns before, their distribution reaches MI which is nice. Not my favorite beer (lager), but decent. I've never had the IPA, I will keep a lookout for it.

Dyz - Where in Hawaii? I was there for my honeymoon and went to Kona Brewing Co. They had some great tap-only beers along with some of the stuff you listed. My fav. was the lemongrass hefeweizen and the Castaway IPA. I think I missed the Koko Brown, but they recently started distributing to Minnesota too.

Dejeanneret - I'll watch for the Pennant Ale. We started getting some Brooklyn beers here in MN last year. The Lager or IPA are usually on tap, but we briefly had the Post Road Pumpkin Ale and that was really good. Probably the most balanced, drinkable pumpkin beer I've ever had.

I used to go for the Pennant Ale regularly as a "lawnmower beer," the thing you want nice and cold after an hour or two of work in the sun on a summer day. Now I really like the Local 1. Not sure if Local 1 and Local 2 have the same wide distribution as the others mentioned, but I'd definitely check them out if you can.

I don't know if Brooklyn actually moved upstate; I think they just do their brewing at FX Matt like half the other big craft beer you can think of, including Sam Adams.

I'm pretty sure I've seen some Brooklyn offerings turn up here in Victoria... I'll have to check which ones. (I'm thinking 1 and 2, but my memory is shit)
