Default Studs & Duds - Monday, 01/28/13

Studs & Duds

STUDS

"Coyote not Ugly": Keith Yandle and Chad Johnson both had a beautiful game for the Yotes. Yandle had 3pts (1G,2A) on 3 shots and was a +2. Can he build off of this performance and return to fantasy relevance or will he be eclipsed by OEL's ever growing fantasy shadow? Johnson, in his Coyotes' debut, posts his first career shutout. Does he get the nod for a consecutive start this Wed vs. Edm?

"Old Dirty" : Zdeno Chara played a filthy game, doing his best Old Dirty Bastard impersonation, by leading a swarm of Killer Bs to a triumphant victory with 1G, 2A and 4 SOG. The invasion pretty much looked like:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yIqrvUqp7Ok

I didn't hear you... "Say 'gain" : After 3 consecutive games with goose eggs, Tyler Seguin finally had what could be a breakout performance - 1G,1A and 5 SOG. What I find interesting about his number of shots is that he went scoreless in the previous two games on 2 shots and then 3 shots respectively. He had an assist last Monday accompanied with 4 shots. No question, Tyler is a dynamic player capable of scoring on a single shot or pass. However, after reviewing his game logs back to his rookie season, rarely will you find a game that he did not point in when he shoots at least 4 times. The moral of the story is... shoot Tyler...SHOOT!!!

Honorable Mention:

Oil Slick: Devin Dubnyk was not only slick in goal last night, he was sharp, stopping 37 of 38 shots and posting a .974sv%. This is just the type of performance that may help him get on a hot streak, similar to last year. Between him and Johnson's performance, they redeemed what looked to be a very disappointing night of goaltending - See the Duds section below.

It's "Benn" a long time: Welcome back, Jamie Benn! You didn't light it up, but you managed to pull off an impressive feat - breaking even in the +/- cat with your team on the losing end. I'm sure Benn owners appreciate the apple, the 4 PIMS and 2 SOG in your first game back in a season of slow and underwhelming starts from star players. Now that you've handled your business, it's time for you to get down to "business" for your fantasy owners, you multi-cat stud, you!

Duds

"Psych Ward" : Cam, what gives? Apparently, you do!! You took a sparkling 1W - 2L record into last night's game as well as an intimidating 4.72 GAA and .845 SV%. You follow that performance up by allowing 4 goals, one of which came with less than two minutes left in the game after your boys bailed you out!! * Sigh * Luckily for Ward, the last goal was an empty-netter.

Ward owners shouldn't panic. However, they should put the cuffs on Dan Ellis as a "back up" plan, especially in deeper leagues.

"Caught with ya Pekka out" : Pekka was hung out to dry in this one, finishing with a .849sv%. As usual, no offense or close to none from Nsh. The poor guy has to be practically perfect night in and night out. Pekka falls to 0-1-3 on the season. From what I saw of the Nsh/Pho game, Phoenix created a TON of traffic on a few of their goal. Next up, the defending champs this Thursday. I expect Pekka to have a strong rebound.

The "Advil" Predators: I'm sure some fans popped a few after watching that horrid Nashville offense. Even Colorado had enough pride to score one goal. Adding insult to injury, they get shut out by a tender in his first NHL game. Hurry, throw some money at Radulov!

Well, that's enough from me. See you gents next Tues.

Excellent read dude!

Seguin may have had a stud stat line last night but the fact of the matter is that goal was an empty-netter. Hopefully it will get him rolling though.

So sad that my two stud goalies in my money league made your dud section. I was stoked to see I was sweeping that H2H matchup this week until I realized he had no goalies play last night.

Even worse when you're like losing 4-2 and you're like oh that's not that bad. And then you realize the categories you're winning are with a crappy GAA and SV% lol

Great job one87!

Thank you ALL. I have a new-found respect for S&D. From the time the games end to the time one has to have it up is a pretty damn quick turnaround!! LOL. Other than that, pure fun.
