too quick. this is still like training camp for oates.
not that i was too optimistic anyway,
but while every team faced challenges with a short preseason,
teams with new coaches like calgary and washington have an even bigger challenge to get things going smoothly from the start.

Even though it's a shortened season I'm still not jumping to any conclusions until I've seen at least 15-20 games. Remember, the New Jersey Devils won the Cup in the last shortened season after an awful start.

Ease up Chicken Little.

Of course it's early and they can win the next 46 games. But they were being outshot like 32 to 16 at one point. . . in their home opener. After giving up 6 goals in their first game. They even have the fire power to come back in this game but I was just saying their D looks horrible and totally lost. . . like it has been known in the past (minus Hunter for a little).

I think what the Caps need is a new coach.

they've got Ovie on RW too, I just don't understand all these gimmicks...3 seasons ago they scored more goals than any team had in decades, why not go back to what was working then and add get your defensemen to play defense and good shit might happen

Ovechkin is whats wrong with them.

Wrong piece to build your franchise around because of his character or lack therof, and unwillingness to evolve or improve unlike Crosby, Stamkos.

I am not sure what is wrong with the Caps either, but I really don't think Ovechkin is the problem. He is more focused and ready to do whatever is asked of him than I have ever seen. He has told the media that he talked to Hunter one time while Hunter was coach and talks to Adam Oates every day.

I wish I could answer the main question in this thread, "What is wrong with the Washington Capitals", but right now I can't. I was at the game tonight and need to see some highlights before I can even start to form an idea of what the problem is. Right now everything is a problem.

Jay Beagle was the most impressive person I saw tonight. He skated the puck across the blue line the way Mike Green used to. Also tonight, the Caps changed the 1st line, putting Hendricks in place of Marcus Johansson, which resulted in a goal. I think until Brooks Laich is back, and the players have a few more days (hopefully not weeks) under a new coach, this team is going to be all over the place.

That is all.
