if you arent a generational talent you shouldnt be getting a market contract at all that is what arbitration rights are for if you dont have arbitration rights you shouldnt be trying to act like you do have them i am sorry but the jvr contract and the kessel contract were horrendous given how little the players did to earn them benn may have done more than them but not enough for $6m or whatever it is they claim he wants you get a market contract on your first deal when you are a ufa or giving up a fair number of ufa years or are the crosbys malkins and ovechkins of the world everyone else should be waiting their turn and by first deal i mean first deal that isnt the rookie deal which are all basically the same |

exactly while no one would suggest you take lessons from sather for his ufa contracts you certainly can take lessons from looking at how he deals with these bridge contracts

Looks like Benn is being a little jerkoff about the whole thing:
With Jamie Benn still unsigned, Tom Wandell is likely to play on the second line in the Stars' season opener. "We’re looking at it the same way we would if he was out of the lineup because of an injury," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said of Benn. "This opens up opportunities for other players, and they’re going to try to seize them. I just talked to Tommy Wandell, and I haven’t seen that kind of look in his eye since I've known him. He’s excited about getting the chance to play with Ray Whitney and Michael Ryder." Wandell isn't a bad player to pick up for the weekend, but he isn't expected to have any fantasy value after Benn signs. Source: Dallas Morning News

The larger part of the dispute is over term, right? Dallas wants him to sign long term but he only wants 3 years. I don't blame a guy for wanting to keep his options open. 5 or 6 years seems like a ton when you're in your early 20s.
Ironically enough, his brother, Jordie, might be on the ice as a Star but he won't be! I love the guy, get back on the ice soon, Jamie.

I almost ended up drafting this guy in my cash pool, good thing I narrowly missed him. A couple of games is pretty big in a shortened season.

Silfverberg looks good to me, so imo start him. He's apparently going to start on Spezza's line, so you can't really go wrong there.
