I agree that you made your team better.

The only thing I question is if your team was already good enough pre-trade. If that's the case, this was the wrong move. Unfortunately, there's no way to know if your team was good enough. So, I think you could have gotten more with stamkos involved, it definitely should help and not hurt your team.

D: Letang >> Boyle. Age. Opportunity. All favour Letang.

G: Fleury = Anderson/Markstrom. Goalie in prime (MAF) vs combo of starting to slide downwards but still solid (Anderson) and golden child lacking only opportunity (Markstrom). Hard to see MAF convincingly beating out your established starters of Rask & Schneider so I can't really call this a big upgrade in goal.

Depthwise, an argument can be made to do the deal but I see the trade as a swap of prime career years from F to D for you. I wouldn't do it myself (Stamkos really should be an untouchable in all formats) but I wouldn't fault you if you pulled the trigger.
Thanks for the assessment, you make some great points. Although I would argue that Perry/Staal are just hitting their prime years and I try to base my moves on the 3-year philosophy. I think they both play some of their best hockey during the next three years for sure. Of course, offensively Stamkos and Tarasenko will probably outproduce them before that window is up.

I don't think anyone would argue the Letang point.

With the goalies, Rask and Schneider aren't exactly proven starters. Neither has had to shoulder a huge workload before. I have faith in both of them, but with daily starts it never hurts to have insurance. Fleury is a far better insurance policy than Anderson.

Thanks for the input man, you make some great points.

You're probably right about not having to give up so much, or I probably could have asked for a draft pick in return. The thing is though I took what were probably the four best players on his team. Weber and Ryan are the only others you could make a case for. I've also never successfully traded with this manager before in spite of multiple talks so I took that into consideration. Thanks for the input.

Thanks man, I'm surprised, I kind of figured you wouldn't care for this trade.

Trades are not about winning, but making your team better. If a trade makes your team better and you got full value, then it's all that matters.
Thanks man. That's what I was going for. This manager is no slouch and I didn't feel I was going to walk away feeling like I "won" the trade. I was simply hoping to walk away feeling good about it and getting the players I targeted. The original offer I sent did not include Markstrom. He wanted Markstrom but didn't want to include Letang. No Letang = No Deal for me. It worked out in the end.

Thanks man. I would have definitely been competitive this year pre-trade. Obviously it all comes down to performance. If any of the guys I traded away exceed my expectations, then I probably lose. If any of the guys I traded for exceed my expectations, then I probably win. All in all it was worth it simply because it's first bloody trade I've made in months!!!!!!! So now my trigger finger isn't quite so itchy anymore.
