Doughty will have cup hangover.. Buffy has a spare tire wrapped around his body.. Weber doesn't have much help in Nashville.. Pietrangelo will win this one hands down, no doubt about it..

There's a big diff between a sample size of 5 and 30+. Dyz is correct that if this poll were as close as you seem to believe, then the results would be much more dispersed. As it stands, AP is running away with it. You don't even need to look at it from a statistical point of view, just read the responses in the thread... and it is clear as black and white that this poll isn't close and the majority here heavily favour AP. I think AP is a fantastic talent, but one year isn't enough for me... I need to see more. |

AP has the hype, he's the Doughty of the 09-10 season. People tend to gravitate to the sexy, next-best-thing pick all the time in an attempt to be ahead of the pack. Plus, a lot of us irrationally believed after his 59pt season, Doughty would "obviously" get 60-70 in subsequent years. When he did not, people feel let down, and look elsewhere. Which is a mistake.
AP's got talent no doubt, but I'm w/blayze in that I need more than a year to move him into 'exalted' status.

sure there is a difference between 5 and thirty, but neither one is enough to base any kind of absolute on. especially when we are talking about people's opinions of hockey players. my main point isn't that the poll was close, just the players. and the poll does not say anything about how much better people think AP is than DD. All it says is that the majority of voters prefer him. Maybe they prefer him a lot, maybe a little. |

Other than dyz and I, only four people even left comments about the poll. Here: 1. Doughty will have cup hangover.. Buffy has a spare tire wrapped around his body.. Weber doesn't have much help in Nashville.. Pietrangelo will win this one hands down, no doubt about it.. 2. Pietrangelo for me. 3. Pietrangelo. 4. 1. Pietrangelo 2. Doughty 3. Byfuglien 4. Weber Not sure where you came to your conclusion from. You must be using the same math as dyz. looks to me like one person out of the 18 people who voted for AP thought it wasn't close. anyways, thats enough crazy math for me. i'm out... 3 things I learnt today, thanks to this thread (well, re-learnt some of them):
1) Potential is valued over proven in most cases on these boards 2) AP hype train is huge on these boards 3) Apparently me and blayze are the only people who took statistics in university |

all that i learned is that it is okay to hype doughty because of one great season three years ago, but you can't hype AP because he was great last season. one good season three years ago is obviously worth more than a good one last season. makes total sense. both these guys have one forty point season under their belt and they both have one fifity point season under their belt, they are both two of the premier talents at their positions currently inthe game.... but doughty is obviously so much more proven... probably learned this in a logic class at that same university you took statistics at, hey dyz...
