I heard an ex-babysitter for Doug Gilmour, Chris Pronger and Brian Burke were all involved.

If a GM's decision makes neither financial sense or hockey sense in the teams on ice performance then what positive can you take from that decision?
It's really funny you say that because I actually am involved in 100million dollar project decisions on a daily basis, are you? I suspect not or you'd understand that when you're rolling in that world you don't sweat a few million bucks or everyone would be a nervous wreck. Hell, I've seen tens of millions dumped into projects only to have the plug pulled on them before completion due to changing economic climates. The point is we make the decisions we make in the moment with the information we have available to us and don't look back.

Anyway, I digress. You're simply cherry picking a few signings that appear bad in hindsight and using that as evidence of Burke's poor skills as a GM. Please name me a GM in the league who doesn't have a few signings in the past few years he doesn't regret?

Burke was given the money to spend, he spent it on available players and some of them didn't work out. Once again I ask; who cares? If you think that's the measure of Burkes success or failure then you have COMPLETELY missed the point.

Its obvious with money its easy-come-easy-go with you. Not everybody has that same attitude.... or don't you understand that viewpoint?

My point originally about cherry picking the bad signings was because the Burke faithful were trying to extoll all the good things Burke did and wanted to ignore his failings, just like you are.
FACT remains, Burke was GM since 2008 and the Leafs have not had ONE playoff game to show for it. Is that not the goal of every GM? To see their team improve, make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup? Burke didn't accomplish that and now you want to white wash the negatives of his track record?
Of course his failings need to come to light.

What kind of a world of non-accountability do you live in? You must work for a government agency or something!

i think in the end, we will find that this wasn't a hockey move at all... you either love burke, or you hate him and i bet he wore out his welcome, especially with nonis waiting in the wings.

do you think another gm could have done better given what burke had to start with? lets say gm X was hired instead of burke, and he kept the picks instead of trading for kessel. fast forward to today, the leafs now have seguin, hamilton, reilly, schenn, but do not have kessel, phaneuf, jvr, colborne, lupul, gardiner. do you really think gm X could have traded guys like stajan, toskala etc for the players the leafs have now? i know it's all hypothetical and we'll never know, but burke did a pretty good job given what he started with.
