Default Yannick Weber

Anyone have thoughts about what to expect from him this year and the future?
Powerplay time?

In a full keeper league, is he worth keeping over an "average" prospect who might have a 6.5 C rating on hockey futures?

He's in a tough spot right now. He could be as low as #8 dman. I'm actually thinking he could be traded to a team that needs a warm body to cover for an injury.

Well one thing's for sure. He has no place in the Canadiens organization now or in the future. Hamilton guy until he moves somewhere else. If he moves somewhere else.

I wouldn't expect Weber to have much if any fantasy value for this season.

And I don't put much, if any stock in Hockeys Future ratings.

I've seen Yannick Weber play quite a bit in the Swiss league this year. He has offensive upside and a big shot from the point, but is rather one dimensional. Given that the likes of Markov, Subban, Kaberle aren't what you'd call solid rocks, either, I think the Habs might be reluctant to use Weber on top of them.
If you're looking towards a Swiss born Canadiens D, definitely go with Raphael Diaz. He's been great for Zug with 29 points in 32 games (as a D!). Weber only managed 19 in 32 games. The supporting cast can be described as similar: Weber's squad Geneva is currently 3rd and Diaz' Zug is 4th. So Diaz should be your choice, more offense and also better defensively.

Diaz is so much better than Weber. I would say that Diaz doesn't have the same pure offensive abilities but as a better defensive player he does not find himself in the coach's doghouse and thus plays more consistently which leads to more points.

I think Diaz starts the year in the lineup on the third pairing with Francis Bouillon. He'll get some 2nd PP unit time so he does have the opportunity to produce something interesting.

I agree that Diaz is a better overall player than Weber.

Nevertheless, keep an eye on the PK Subban contract negociation. If it drags into the season, Weber is now the #7 dman, so one injury away from a regular shift. And the second he is in the line up, he will see plenty of PP ice time, especially with Subban out. It could mean first unit.

But there are probably more viable options outhere.

hope it helps

I think Diaz as past Weber and the Habs dept chart. So I don't see him having any significant value unless traded elsewhere.
