IMO the next full season Ennis plays he will score 60-66 points. His high-point will hover around 72-77 when he hits his peak in a few years.

I see Ennis as a 55pt player for the upcoming year.
I think he'll touch mid-60s in his better years.

Hmm, I'd probably disagree that they got rid of Derek Roy because they see big things in Ennis. I think getting rid of Roy was simply because he was too small to cut it as a C1 with their already undersized forwards. Everytime I watched Buffalo I heard about how small they were with Roy-Ennis-Gerbe. You could use smaller/faster players on the wings (such as MSL in TB), if the line has some grit, but you just can't be too small at center AND wings. It doesn't work.

Anyways, I think moving Roy was more of a straight-up move for Steve Ott, who I think will be utilized a lot.

Ennis only won 52/145 faceoffs and he's way too small to push anybody out of a net-front presence. He'll be lining up as a top 2 line winger... but there's no way I see him taking a center spot.

My forecasted lines:
Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Ennis-Ott-Stafford

See... I think that line 1 was too small with Roy... it's a bit better with Hodgson there. And a line 2 is too weak in general, but if you stick Ott there it's more balanced.

Anyways, I think Ennis would have been a top 2 line player this year regardless, just saying I don't think it has anything to do with Roy being dealt.

Trivia for the Comish: Who is the smallest center to effectively play well in the NHL over the last 25 years?

(I don't know the answer... I'm just sort of wondering, I can't think of any bonafide small center, I'm talking Ennis-small, that actually cut it in the NHL as a 70+pt player. The only way I see Ennis able to get 70+pts is as a winger.)

Do you think that his ppg over the last 30 ish games at center was more of a fluke or is he insulated with having two big wingers in Stafford and Foligno to play with? I thought that Ruff really like him at center and it seemed that he caught fire when he moved to C. Stafford/Foligno seemed to be a nice compliment to his undersized frame, no?

Are you thinking that over the long haul of a season he won't be able to handle the physical nature of the position?

First, Ruff switches lines around like no one's biz. So pinning Ennis down for a full season is anyone's guess. Long term they ideally want Hodgson and Grigs as the top two centers, and Ennis back at wing. When that occurs is dependent on Grigs' development (and injury).

Last year, if I recall, Ennis was centering the third line (with Foligno) out of necessity - and performed rather admirably. He's far too talented for a third line role, and is better suited as a second line winger.

Ott is considered a center because of his face off ability, He could easily center the third line OR if the Sabres need more muscle up front he could be moved to the wing on line #2.

I think Foligno is more the wild card. If he can maintain his current level of tenacity + production throughout a full 82 games he could be elevated to the second line. Offense drops off and he'll fall back to line #3 - paired w/ Ott? - that would make for a nasty third line.

Win/Win all around if ya ask me.

Ennis is too talented to play 3rd line. That much is clear.
Yes, that line was definitely on fire to end the year... specifically around mid-March.

I like Ennis (I'm 5'-9" myself), but he's one of those players that is skilled enough to dominate against lesser competition (WHL) or against softer teams. But against the grittier teams, he'll get bullied - and ultimately the coach has to make decisions for the team that are best for their overall playoff chances, not just against a majority of teams.

For that reason, I think we see Ennis as a top 2 line winger (as Bomm said) and as a PP guy.
They need to get him big minutes and they need to not overload him with the responsibilities of being an NHL center (the toughest position in hockey to play).

I don't mean to make him sound bad... I think he'll be excellent, but he will have to play wing to be a 70pt player... and that likely means he'll get a less-skilled, albeit grittier, center to play with.
