More loose ends than a mop to tie up.

I think we might see Dexter off LaGuerta and drop his code. It would do wonders for the show to see Dexter go off the range for a while and not keep his urges in check.

I think he already dropped the code when he killed Hannah's father. At the very least, he modified it or bent it. The guy was a slimeball but he didn't meet the code.
That whole episode was about Dexter acknowledging that his "dark passenger" didn't really exist. It's been him all along. He decides who dies. And he accepts the fact that he maybe doesn't "need" to kill... but he wants to. He enjoys it.

I think Clint McKay's death shows that, going forward, Dexter is capable of killing almost anyone if he wants to. If he can justify it. Clint threatened Hannah. Dexter loves Hannah. Clint goes into the ocean. Laguerta threatens Deb (assuming here that she will find out Deb planted that evidence on Doakes last show) . Dexter loves Deb. Laguerta goes into the ocean.

I agree. I think Dexter is finally starting to take responsibility for what he does. Harry's code hasn't been working too well for him. He got busted by Deb last season and LaGuerta is hot on his trail. He's creating a new code.

Anyways....I know she's going to jail...but show's like this have a tendancy to have one season story arcs for their guest stars (which completely makes sense). I just hope they trick us with this one and she sticks around and doesn't somehow die in prison or end up on Dexter's table.

The next time I get caught in a bind I'm just gonna utter those magical words

It's very interesting the direction they chose to go in.
Dexter killing Hannah's father, and then fully intending to kill Laguerta - 2 people not fitting the code at all, especially the latter.
And then Deb actually killing Laguerta, in addition to planting more evidence on Doakes and having already helped Dexter burn the church.

I think the writers are slowly shifting these characters into ones we actually hope get caught. And that would be an amazing accomplishment as I don't think anyone wanted to see Dex get caught. But it's more and more difficult to cheer for this guy. He's now willing to kill simply to keep the life he no longer considers "fake."

Nobody liked Laguerta anyway, but even so, she didn't deserve to die. What will happen next year when the very likable Bautista investigates her disappearance? If Deb shrieked over LaGuerta's murder, what would she do if she (or Dex) had to kill Bautista purely out of self preservation?

It's going to be a LONG wait for next September. At least Breaking Bad will be back in the summer.
