I don't want to hijack the thread here, but I also think this is an interesting concern pertaining to the OP. Should the OP even be considering trading Malkin and if so what should be the goals?

In any trade if you can gain more than what you lose, or deal from a position of strength and fill a weakness without losing more than what you would gain isn't it worth it?

Also, if a trade is considered equal from your perspective, i.e. in a typical week you think your stats wouldn't change in any category if you did the trade, would it be better to have those stats come from one elite producer or multiple players? Wouldn't it be less risky from multiple players?

Idk, just some thoughts I had as I read eric's reply. Maybe someone could shed some light on this to determine if the OP should even be dealing Malkin in the first place.

Unless the word "for" is between trading and Malkin, I wouldn't advise to do it.

I think that's a good counter.

If it helps I flipped my Malkin and Pavlec for Ericsson, Couture, Halak, and Granlund

Well and politely said Angus. My original thought was a little harsher - "You want to trade who for what??????? Have you lost your mind?" Is this some kind of move to reduce your contract values, because if that isn't a factor I just don't see how you are getting adequate value for such a stud when you have such a limited weekly starting roster.

latest buzz..
We are still going back and fourth. He wants to do it without Tavares and I'm not sure that's possible. But a piece that comes into play is Weber. I threw out Zetterberg, Franzen, Weber, Couture, Hiller and Harmonic as what he would have to pay. In other words if no bog scorer is coming back ,I'm building a whole team out of the deal. He has several options of who he gets back on top of Malkin, but none of my key roster players (Lucic, Kessel, Filppula, Quick) or my top prospects (Faulk, Kreider, Brunner, Barberio). Although I think he really likes Barberio. Going by projections it's a decent gain over the coarse of a full year, and certainly gives me the depth to challenge now. But, is it still fair value if the only top name I get back is at D?

Ovie is also in play, but he would want pretty close to 1 for 1. I may squeeze keith out of it, and then move Filppula to C. But a C core of Briere and Filppula isn't exactly threatening.

I would completely back away from this negotiation while you still have a chance. You are losing a generational talent for a bunch of spare parts. If you don't get a player named Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Giroux, or Tavares you will regret it. Heck you should at least be getting ONE or TWO of Sedin, Sedin, Backstrom, Kopitar, P.Kane, Seguin, Toews, Parise, Kovalchuk, Getzlaf, Perry, Staal, Neal, Spezza or an Oiler Kid.

STOP the negotiation now, gain some leverage, and then demand to have one of the other "Top 6 players" in the deal. You are getting run over in this deal by a guy with TWO of the "Top 6 players" already, and now he is close to getting another one.

Just my opinion of course, but I think you can do way better out of the reigning Art Ross Trophy winner.

My advice would be unless you get what you WANT, don't make the deal. You have all the bargaining power here, since you have the best player. Forget about the enigmatic Ovechkin. Go for the win-win scenario:

Malkin + Grabovski + Havlat
for
Tavares + Couture + Perry

Thats a deal you win.

If he says no, then you still win since you own Malkin.

Tell him it makes no sense for you to trade arguably the best fantasy player out there unless you get an overpayment. Stick to your guns, don't settle for less...theres no rush.
