How long do you think they will continue to trust him? Right now the owners are writing off losses from the lockout while the players are simply writing off paycheques.

Are you calling Goodenow a chump? He was a hardliner who led the players to one strike and two lockouts. He never accepted a salary cap (which Bettman tried already in the 1994-95 lockout) but in the end he was walked over and the players took the salary cap. Wouldn't call him a chump anymore than I'd call Bettman or Fehr a chump.

The owner of the Wild, who is on the negotiating committee, just announced a 20% payroll reduction for his staff - effective post-holidays.

I don't like to read into things but that doesn't seem to me to be the action of an owner who is optimistic of resolution.

Just sayin....

So the millionaire players, who are stealing other people's jobs overseas and in other leagues, not only put their fellow hockey players out of work but now cost 20% salary reductions - just so that they won't have to take a similar cut in salary.

Yup makes sense!

This doesn't get talked about enough. What a bunch of hypocrites. They constantly talk about their principles and looking out for their brethren down the road with this CBA negotiation. And yet they have no problem stealing jobs in other leagues during the lockout?! Quite the set of principles indeed.

Point taken. "Chump" was probably too harsh. But you don't want a leader who gets walked over, or undermined by his own people. Then again, the NHLPA was a hilarious mess back then.

That's true but the real test for Fehr hasn't come yet. Are the players still standing behind him in May when the season is cancelled and new season is approaching without no new CBA? The real test for Fehr is yet to come and now Bettman is looking how firmly they're standing behind him with offering a meeting without him, Daly or the Fehr brothers. Even just agreeing to that meeting could be viewed as undermining Fehr's leadership IMO.

Yes, very good point indeed. I don't think Fehr will take kindly to challenges to his leadership.
