It would be extremely pointless for RNH to be at the WJC.

edit: but I'm not saying he won't be there, since it's pointless for him to be in the AHL as well. Go or no-go, it probably doesn't matter at all for him.

Respect you opinion, but disagree. While you may not "develop" in a 6 or 7 game tournament like you would playing against men in the AHL, the experience you get playing in big game situations has gotta be worth 15 games (or sumpoin like that) in the AHL, IMO. Experiencing that pressure and learning to control your emotions and energy can't be learned in any other situation. I'd, personally, say that playing an entire WJC has gotta be close to being worth a season (or so) in the AHL. The best players are recognized for winning and performing at clutch times, not as much for personal accomplishments. It's all about the big game and I don't know where else one could get such an experience.

He's already had that experience. Better to play in the second best league in the world right now to gain more experience. Especially since Sweden probably won't get to be in the big game this time around anyway.

Also, it's a completely different WJ when it's on big ice. My opinion would be a bit different if the tournament was in Buffalo, for example, only a couple hours away from Binghamton. Then you wouldn't have to worry about flying across the world for a month and re-adapting to the new game. The two Swedes Silfverberg and Zibanejad are still adjusting to timing and positioning over here in the AHL, so going away to big ice would make him have to readjust once again when returning to the AHL.

He and his agent concluded that not going was the right choice.

just to add, I would definitely agree with you if you're talking about a player who has never represented his country nationally, like a Tanner Pearson last year or other Canadians of that ilk. However, Zibanejad like most of the Swedish prospects have represented their country many, many times in the past, be-it U16, U17, U18, U19, and so forth, since their pool of talent is small. The Euros have a lot of this experience already compared to Canadians and Americans who have more players.

You make complete sense. I still think the big game experience justified missing a few games in the ahl. Different story if he had to miss the season or something but I get what you're saying
