In my opinion, this sums it up so well:

The last shred of hope we had that Bettman would begin to behave in a rational manner vanished last Wednesday, when the NHL had asked the NHLPA to set down its proposals in writing. Donald Fehr and his staff complied. Within less than an hour, it was clear that the request was nothing but a publicity stunt on Bettman’s part: the NHLPA proposal was shot down like all the rest, and the league faced its version of a nuclear winter.

Those of you who think the players are equally to blame simply aren’t paying attention. From the beginning, the players have been giving and giving and giving again in relation to the last CBA while the NHL is “giving” only play money, in relation to the league’s initial offer — which was like something drawn up by a madman. (Yes, that madman.) On top of the huge financial giveback, the league is demanding that players surrender contracting rights it took six decades to win.

I'll tell you who's not paying attention - the ****ing idiot who wrote that piece.

NHLPA has been giving and giving and giving? Yeah, like asking for guaranteed money and guaranteed raises is giving. That's what they have been doing all this time.

NHL is giving play money and NHLPA actual money? That's laughable. Who's the one paying all the checks? NHL is giving up real money - NHLPA is giving up only potential money.

As long as the players keep insisting on clauses such as "our salaries can't ever go down" - it's easy for the NHL to reject their offers. That's not real 50/50 offer when you demand something like that. I'd suggest for the writer of that piece of crap to think about the potential ramifications of a clause like that to the existence of NHL in times when the growth stops and the revenue starts going down. That's a homerun clause for the NHLPA. If they get that, they'll come out of these negotiations as a big time winner. That's not seeking a deal - that's seeking a win. So don't complain about NHL doing that too when it's exactly what the players are doing too.

I'm not even going to bother reading the rest of that article as those quotes already proved the author doesn't know what he's talking about. This is just another pro-PA piece of crap.

Journalism in the old media is 90% garbage these days. Sadly, if we face very important issues, the reporters will be in their respective corners only.

I don't agree. Nothing strange with guaranteed salaries or raises when it comes to labor market deals, the latter is to prevent real wage decreases over time.

I do agree with Dukla Nation though that we do not know much of what actually is going on behind closed doors.
