I'm heading out in an hour or so, but I'll see if I can help you.

First, here's a link to help you identify your video card:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/w...sked-questions

If it is NOT an ATI card, then it is likely that process I gave earlier is a virus. There are cases where viruses have presented as that name as well as ATI video card process.

Second, here's a link explaining how to start in Safe Mode.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/w...r-in-safe-mode

Follow the directions and select Safe Mode with Networking. Use for a while and see if it repeats.

As mentioned above, I'm on wireless now and I don't know if anything is different than before (mobile broadband - I could track it constantly). How do I even know that my memory is still that high - from my screenshots earlier?

Well, you are confusing the memory usage with bandwidth. The data you send and receive over your internet connection, regardless if wireless, broadband, etc., is not the memory and has nothing (not directly anyways) to do with the memory that is listed in Task Manager. This is related to the amount of computer memory (RAM) the process is using.

Hmmm.. come to think of that, why not just download and use Google Chrome?

Are you noticing any difference in your computer's operation? Or your mobile data usage?

Would I really need to change to Google Chrome? I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Nope, don't notice any difference but wouldn't have before when I was on mobile broadband except that I had noticed how much I was using since we were on a monthly limit. Now on in-home wireless I have no idea what it's using. In terms of performance, I haven't noticed anything.

So that process should be there. So, that's no worry.

Unless you are seeing a dramatic increase in mobile data usage or big slowdowns in your system, i'm not sure there's much going on there.

Now with that said, I'm a Mac user (administered a school Windows network for 5 years) so I'm not totally sure what the normal RAM usage is for internet explorer. I do know that I find it horrible to use, though.

The 70MB in ten minutes does seem like quite a bit. But, if you do go to numerous pages with significant images, then it's quite possible. I know I'm throwing lots of things at you, just trying to offer help.

Have you tried connecting your computer via the mobile data connection and just leaving it? Don't actively browse, or do anything. Just sit there and see how much data you use up over 10 minutes?

EDIT: Of course you don't need to switch to Chrome. Was just wondering if that would address your RAM usage with Internet Explorer. But that had little to do with your data usage.

But I'm still concerned from the beginning. What if nothing has been changed since the sudden increase? The Norton scan found a few things but not sure if any of it was to do with this? Should I be concerned or let it be unless performance changes? Anything else that I should look out for that could be a sign that something is wrong?

We don't have mobile broadband anymore - it's been stopped since we moved yesterday. The first instance (that I noticed) started going up significantly when on this site earlier in the week, and it kept going up. I turned it off that night and in the morning went in to check my mail (yahoo) and it started up quickly again - about 10-15mb within a couple of minutes. I wasn't doing anything other than reading one email. I shut down my browser and it kept going up until I disconnected the broadband.

Later that day I went to the library and that's when it went up 70MB in 10 minutes, though it stabilised and went pretty much as normal for the next 1.5-2 hours.

Since being on wireless I have no idea how much it's using. I did a full Norton scan (which found a bit and fixed, not sure what though) and Malwarebytes that didn't find anything.

At no point did I notice the performance being affected, it was only when I could see the usage.

Oh and no worries - I really appreciate your help with this - thanks a lot.

Well, you could get into safe mode with networking and surf the web for 10 minutes and possibly record your data usage. That would create a bench mark of data usage for you.

Then you could try to replicate the same browsing while not in safe mode. Record your data usage and compare it what you used in Safe Mode. If there's a big difference, then something other than your browsing is causing it. Of course there will be some difference, but I can't image that 70MB over 10 minutes of usage would be "normal", unless that was your normal browsing usage.
