Yeah me neither. I think pretty much all fantasy GM's have already given up on him - regardless of what he does on the ice from now on. He's an aging player with an injury risk attached to him and a hot start won't change that. He'll be viewed as such no matter what and has hardly any trade value.

I honestly can't see any scenario in which you'd be able to move Markov for Justin Faulk in a keeper league from now on. So my advice is again to go with Faulk.

In keeper leagues the sex-appeal is always on younger players and on potential. Faulk has big time sex-appeal right now.

It depends.
We here on DobberHockey are hip to all the up-and-coming kids.

But... not all hockey pools are like that.

For example, I help one of my buddies with his points-only keeper.
It's 13 teams, each counting 6F,4D (most rostering a 5th).
That's 65 defensemen in play.

Justin Schultz AND Justin Faulk were both untouched this year in the redraft.
90% of hockey pool people buy a physical magazine as their guide to do their draft. Until the hockey season starts, they aren't making any moves.

If Faulk is available on the wire at this point... he'll sit there for a bit longer... likely until his NHL-stat-line is recognizeable.

WE (here on Dobberhockey) represent probably the upper 10% of fantasy hockey minds... or so I'm finding.
This is mostly good... but sometimes we have to step back and pretend we are just buying our yearly magazine.
[Side story: In his rookie year, my buddy had Tyler Seguin on his roster. The trade deadline came and he/we couldn't even unload Seguin and we had to straight drop him. He was a redraftable player for his 2nd season in the NHL. That would never happen in a fantasy hockey league with smarter minds.]

Just out of curiousity... does anybody have a magazine prediction on Markov? Faulk?

There is something I'm not understanding here. If hits do indeed carry equal value to points Then a player like Luke Schenn, who had 270 hits compared to a player like Erik Karlsson who had 60 is extremely valuable. How valuable you ask? Take any selection of top D's, and do the math and compare it to Schenns numbers, and you will see that the difference is minmal.

Once again I apologize in advance if I'm not seeing this right.

It's a good point.
As actual-value goes... Schenn is the highest rated value defenseman (of the OP's listed free agents).
Attached is my own mathematical model for a 7-cat league including Hits.

Luke Schenn comes in at #27. (for 2012-2013 stats)
Fantasy-trade-value not considered... I agree... he's the guy.
Defensemen should be drafted for PIM & Hits - so Schenn is a perfect fit.

(again... Markov is only a trade-value opinion... by actual fantasy-value, I concur on Schenn.)

Justin Faulk all the way for me...if this is a keeper league.
