Default Inaugural draft advice

Started a new 10 team H2H dynasty league with the following specs:

Start: 4 C, 4 LW, 4 RW, 1 UTIL, 6 D, 2 G, 5 BN
Stats: G, A, P, PPP, +/-, HIT, BLK, SOG, FW / W, GAA, SV, SV %

No PIM, SHP, or SHO because I feel they're big swing categories that account for lucky victories now and then.

We had our prospect draft a few months back and I ended up with:

Yakupov, Granlund, Schwartz, Bernier, Smith, Schultz, Faksa, Brodin, Lindholm, Jensen.

I'm picking 9th out of 10. I traded my 2nd, 4th, and 6th round picks for upgraded picks in the prospect draft and got back extra 3rd, 5th, and 12th rounders. So my first seven picks are 9, 23, 29, 43, 49, 69, 72.

What kind of strategy should I be taking here? I'm not expecting to be able to compete this year, but I think if I draft smartly enough I can at least make the playoffs (top 4 teams). Does missing my 6th round pick put me at a significant disadvantage? I'm thinking of going 2 G, 4 F, and 1 D with my first 7 picks. What do you guys think my strategy should be? Thanks in advance!

you cannot go too wrong in a 10 team league.
First off what you have so far:
A future star RW, a future very good C, a good #2-3 D, and a solid backup goalie with great potential. I would not bank on the rest panning out, but likely a few more will become very good options.

With that collection i would be thinking young upside in the draft. That will be hard to overcome missing a 6th and falling back in a few other picks. I would quantify as saying i am not a fan of being in the middle, i would rather come in last for a year to be dominate for the next 10.

Dynasty league, definitely grab the young stud goalies as quickly as you can. Unless a Malkin, Crosby, Ovie falls to you at 9, you take the goalie.

With Hits and BLK and FW, don't forget the strong peripheral players.

Although you would generally take the the youngest established/proven player first, do not shy from the 33+ year old forwards (ie. Zetterberg, Thorton, St.Louis, Igilna). You drafted some good prospects, so my strategy would be to grab the productive old vets once the younger ones are gone. By the time these guys retire your prospects should be moving up to replace them. It's called succession (and it has kept Detroit in the running for two decades).

Due to the lockout, I'd avoid Selanne, Jagr, Brodeur, Nabokov though.

"I'm not expecting to be able to compete this year, but I think if I draft smartly enough I can at least make the playoffs (top 4 teams)."

This makes no sense. You are just starting the league. Of course you can compete. At six, you will get one of Stamkos, Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, Giroux or superstud goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

You are guaranteed a franchise player. And then fill out your roster.

In the first year of a league, everyone has a chance.

i pick 9th, not 6th. If Quick and Rinne also go, I'm looking at Tavares.

You still get a franchise player and you get two really as you will be able to nab a stud coming back. I would make sure you land a goalie in those first two because it will get thinner before it gets back to you.
