Thanks for posting this Johner. I was working the night of the draft (didn't find out my work schedule till the date was already set) but dyz stepped in for me. So if anyone wants to rip on my picks, feel free.
Overall though happy with what he managed to do. Have some great depth at goalie which will be good trade chips around the league. |

I was bored this afternoon so I stole the layout created by Angus and attempted to complete a review of the draft from my perspective.
The Eh Team Center: Mike Richards (C,LW); Brad Marchand(C,LW); Danny Briere (C,RW); Patrik Elias (C,LW) Right Wing: Corey Perry (RW); Marian Gaborik (RW); Nail Yakupov (RW); Patric Hornqvist (RW) Left Wing: Taylor Hall (LW); Milan Lucic (LW); Andy Mcdonald (C,LW) ; Steve Sullivan (LW) Defence: Kulikov; Bogosian; Justin Shultz; Orlov; Salo; Hamilton Goaltending: Ryan Miller; Devan Dubynk Bench: Sam Gagner (C,RW); Sean Couturier (C ); Matt Martin (LW) ; Roman Cervenka (C ); Reimer (G) Drafting 10th overall I had planned to go Elite Winger and Goalie the first two rounds. I am new to a Roto league and have also never competed in a league with Hits as a category. I do have a fair amount of experience with deep pools so I felt heading into the draft I would be in good shape come the final 10rounds of the draft. I really focused on forwards with Dual Eligibility; I felt this would offer a lot more freedom making trades to try and solidify my weaker positions. My plan was to take (2) starting goaltenders in the first 4 rounds; that obviously never worked out for me so I was very happy to land Dubynk in the 7th round, 100th overall. Favorite Pick: My favorite pick was Kulikov in the 12th round,171st overall. This was the first dman I took and I have him rated in my top 15D for this set up. I am also very fond of Sullivan being available 24th round; this pick could really give me a boost this season. Pick I Regret: I struggled with my internet connection and had a couple players get selected a little earlier than I would have liked; that being said they weren’t that much of a reach so I can live with the selections. One player I was targeting was Andrej Meszaros ; he was available in the 20th round but I picked Hamilton instead thinking he would fall one more round. He was scooped up the very next pick. This is a risky pick I would have preferred not to have made in a one year league, hopefully it pays off. A Player I Wanted: I really wanted to land Brent Burns in this draft; I felt he would slip a bit further than the 9th round (128th overall). I feel this is where he should have went I just was hoping I would be bragging about getting him in the 12th round. Draft Day Risers: Rick Nash (14) and E. Kane (47) both seemed to be a little bit of a reach. Not saying I don’t like the players I just think they both would have been there a round later. And Fallers: Datsyuk (93rd overall) IMO was the steal of this draft. Pavelec (83rd overall) was also a very good selection considering how many goalies had already been picked off the board. Back to back picks in the 12th/13th round by 2ToRuutu Stastny (176th) and Roy (185th) were both great value. Best/Worst Team Drafted: At this point I prefer not to say, most teams have a lot of potential and I am interested to see how the trades shape up over the next few months. I really feel there is a lot of fantasy knowledge in this group; I can not wait to see how this season plays out! |

(Art Vandelay)
Forwards Marleau-Backstrom-Voracek Kovy-Tavares-E.Cole Semin-Kesler-Havlat Carcillo-Konopka-Marcus Foligno Extras: R.Johansen, M.Johannsson, C.Atkinson Defence: Wisnieski-Garrison Faulk-Hedman Cowen-Gudbransson Extra: Pronger Goalies Hiller Varlomov T.Thomas Going into the draft I had the 12th pick overall. My first instinct was that I wanted to grab an elite goalie (Rinne, Rask). But, soon those options had disappeared and Tavares had dropped into my hands. The 2nd round saw a total of 10 goalies taken. Next thing I know I had to quickly take a goalie in the 4th round. I had to choose from Hiller, Luongo, Anderson, and Niemi. So I decided on Hiller and took Varlomov as my backup. Overall, I tried to go with a strategy of filling the offensive categories with strong forwards and then fill out the other categories with Defencemen like V.Hedman and J.Cowen. We will see how that works. Favorite Pick: Marcus Foligno, I would have to say based on where he was chosen in the 3 other ‘Dobber Leagues’. I got him 19th round (282nd pick). I feel like he has a lot of value in our league that accounts for HITs & PIM’s. He could be a great depth player for me. Pick I Regret: Erik Cole coming off his 35 goal campaign could be a bust in 2012/13. I selected him 10th round (139th overall). I regret not getting Brent Seabrook (144th overall). A Player I Wanted: Obviously the aforementioned Seabrook because of his contributions to +/-, hits, & PIMS. Another guy I would have liked was Travis Harmonic 13th round (188th overall). Specialty guys like Luke Schenn & Orpik were also on my wish list. Draft Day Risers: Anders Lindback (27th overall) taken in front of proven goalies such as Jimmy Howard, Jaroslav Halak, and Mikka Kipprusoff, Hiller & Luongo was a mild surprise. Who knows Lindback could get the ball and run with it in Tampa Bay and be successful. Draft Day Fallers: Obviously very surprised to see Datsyuk fall as far as he did. I had to do a double-take because I couldn’t believe he was still available in the 7th round. Corey Crawford falling to the 8th round (116th overall) was a surprise too. Best/Worst Team Drafted: Its hard to tell which teams will succeed and fail. A team like ‘Hall Me Maybe’ looks to have a good balance of all categories and could be a favourite. Everybody looks to be competitive and it should be a good year if we can soon get our season started. |

a) upgrade Dubynk if possible, I dont feel this is 100% necassary but I would be more comfortable if i could run a more proven combo b) add one more proven dman minimum, I feel if i am going to be competitive this year i will need a bit more depth on defence. c)Trade a couple of my younger players for veteran forwards that should be reliable to post consistant stats. One team in this league ended up with very weak goaltending (only Holtby) after the draft so I targeted this GM offering Reimer/Couturier for Franzen. The GM accepted this deal and i think it was a very safe trade for both of us. Being weekly starts and my intentions to upgrade Dubynk I likely would not have started Reimer often and the upgrade from Couturier to Franzen this year will really help me push for the offensive stats. Franzen also is a LW/RW which sticks to my original game plan from the draft of dual eligibility. Next move is to shore up my defense..... |

Can anyone explain a bit on how the bidding waivers works, and whether the wire is already open?

If i understand it correctly it is fairly simple, if a player is available on the WW anyone can submit a bid 0-$100, highest bid wins the player. All available players are on the WW at this point until the 17th.

Forwards Ryan-Crosby-St. Louis Hartnell-Stastny-Burrows Boedker-Roy-Parenteau Latendresse-Turris-Neil Extras: Silfverberg, Brassard, Eller Defence: Del Zotto-Goligoski Hamhuis-Markov Schenn-Petry Extra: Murray Goalies Lehtonen Crawford Bobrovsky I had the 5th pick going into the draft. I ended up with the one player I didn't really want to take, Sid the Kid. He could win or lose the pool for me, I guess. A 100+ point pace and I like my odds, 100+ point pace for 13 games, well, thanks for coming out. Still, I couldn't leave him on the table at number 5 - I was tempted to go goaltender, but with only 3 cats for the goalies and weekly starts, I decided to go forward. 10 goalies had gone by the time it came around to me again (including 5 in a row), so I had no choice but to go Lehtonen. Favorite Pick: Happy to get Derek Roy in the 13th round, and Jeff Petry in round 19. Also that Corey Crawford was still around in the 8th round - he's not my favorite, but I think he is better than he played last year, and it will be nice to have 2 (likely) first string goalies along with the Bob for depth. Pick I Regret: My last 5 picks, as I was disconnected. A couple of them might turn out, but I hope missing the last half hour doesn't hamstring me too much. A Player I Wanted: Jamie Benn, Max Pac, Steve Ott. Wanted one more multi-cat LW, a little shy on that side. Burrows can slide over if I find more right side help, but would love to find one more wing contributor. Backstrom (WAS) at 49 was very nice. Draft Day Risers: I thought Lindback and Schneider went rather high, but the goalie panic was in full effect. Chara at 13, well, I know he's a beast in this kind of league, but I would have waited until the second round, especially if I was picking 5 later. Draft Day Fallers: Datsyuk, like everyone I guess. Surprised me that Okposo was still there at 205. Best/Worst Team Drafted: Hard to say, of course. I like my first 20 rounds, I think I got a lot of players who will contribute across the board without cutting to much scoring. I think Art Vandelay looks solid, and I kind of like the Barons squad. In my mind, Return of Daigle took really great D, but maybe too early. And I'm not too sure why some teams took 4 goalies, or a third one so early, but you never know I guess.

The more I look at these teams I think Iceholes is the team to beat! Red Robster should do really well in all of the offense categories; I predict he will finish with more points than hits!
Bardown Bandites is another strong offensive team. Renegade Warriors drafted as per their name and should run away with hits/Pims while contributing above average on all of the offensive stats. Can Not Wait for Hockey to Start!!
