Besides, I only picked him cause I knew you'd love it

It's a solid theory. I think Granlund can have a Nuge-esque effect on the Wild power play but the Wild also need improved special teams coaching. The additions of Parise and Suter will ensure that the puck gets going in the right direction so the Wild generate more offensive chances.

The problem is that the Wild did not sign the Wizard of Oz this summer so I don't know where Heatley is miraculously going to find some courage. Heatley is a perimeter guy at this point and unless that changes Heatley is still going to struggle, regardless of the quality of his teammates.

So for the most part, I just love ribbing you about him.

I dunno the thing is with Koivu out for a bit of the season, the Wild PP was essentially non-existant (15.1% efficiency), they also lacked a real PP QB. Heatley is the type of player that needs someone to help generate the offense for him so he can finish. The problem with the Wild last season was there wasn't anyone to do that for him, so key defenders were on him like white on rice, which really limited his game.

Hopefully what the additions of Suter and Parise will do is take some of that defensive pressure off of Heatley and Koivu, to let them do their thing and open it back up for them.

Also he has the benefit of dual eligibility as well, so I mean you can easily just pick up the flavor of the week on LW or RW and slot Heater on the opposite side. If you had say Max Pac, you could really only pick up a RW, which is a bit more limiting...

At his position, I might have went with Eriksson or Semin, or maybe a Thornton, but Heatley isn't a terrible option at that spot to be fair.

With all of the talent they added, having a guy play the Brett Hull role might not be such a bad thing. He does have that scoring touch.

Yeah... I thought of Eriksson/Semin, but having just drafted the Sedin twins, I needed to step away from those categories. Also didn't want to take Thornton and have two C in the first 6 rounds. Then again, I lay blame on the 30-plus pick wait haha...

I dunno not a lot of love for Thornton, but I think if you consider the assists, PPP, +/- that he brings and how much they're actually above the standard deviation compared to what the average C produces, he's a very solid option...

I can understand in a 10 or 12 teamer with 2 C slots, C isn't all that important, but 4 x 16 teamer every advantage you can gain is very important.

If you went with Thornton at your heater pick then perhaps, Bertuzzi or LaRose at your Cervenka pick, might have worked out slightly better...

But to each their own.

He was the bottom part of the first tier. The three other goalies really are above and beyond, and after them it's a bunch of them the same. Rask is kind of in between the two groups within tier 1.
I got a goalie in each tier, per my playbook

With my first two forward picks being Sedin & Sedin, I think A, PPP and +/- were covered. Drafting Thornton might have been overkill. At that point, I wanted a bit more G, SOG, Hits and a winger. I knew I could depend on later picks to provide plus/minus, in this case Peverley and Hamhuis. Assists is easily covered and hoping Minnesota's PP flourishes (Heatley / Suter).

Like you mentioned, to each their own!

For those interested in the results of this draft, each of the owners did a brief write-up on their teams. With the delay to the season, many people may have missed those articles. In case you want to read them, here are the links to the four articles. Lots of text, but it shows the thought process of a variety of owners.

As an aside, I recommend writing down your post-draft thoughts after every draft and revisiting them at the end of the season.

For some reason part 2 didn't post. Obviously user error. Here you go. Okay, I admit that I'm only re-posting it because it's the one with my write-up.
