I remember just like 2 (or maybe 3?) years ago, Backstrom was considered an elite goalie.

I guess it would have been after 08-09 when he posted 37 wins along with .923 and 2.33.

Varlamov for me but this is a good matchup I can see voting either way. Backstrom is 34 with Harding and even Hackett behind him, while Varly has that crease all to himself. We know what to expect from Backs now, while Varly still has the upside....maybe he stays level but it's possible he blows Backs away. I like to gamble.

I know, I still stand by what I said. Backstrom will put up 2.50 and .915 or thereabouts. Varly should post right around that, but could put up even betrer numbers.....I don't think it's a stretch to see Varly at .920 and 2.35

Like I said, it's a good matchup and these two are pretty even.

Seriously, I think Varly has a more realistic chance of getting to 60+ GPs than Backstrom. Harding can easily steal chunks of games away. Giggy much more of a traditional back-up role this year.

...and by "this year" I mean 2016 when this lockout ends.
