Because Niemi sucks. He flat out sucks as a goalie. Niemi is going to get more wins because the team that he plays on is going to score more and get more wins but he is going to lack in Sv% and GAA. SO is a crapshoot as it is only going to come into play 5 weeks out of a 23 week season so you go with the goalie that is more likely to get you 2 of the 3 regular stats.

Niemi's last two seasons are 2.38/.920 and 2.42/.915. Please explain.

^^^ Completely agree ^^^

Yes, Niemi is probly considered a so-so goalie, but he doesnt really put up so-so numbers (let alone crap shoot ones as some of u are suggesting).

Yes, hes on a very good team, a team which underachieved last yr significantly, a team which bolstered its defence this yr by adding Brad Stuart, a team which is likely to do MUCH BETTER next season (or this season...)

Ottawa overachieved last yr, yet Niemi still had better G.A.A and SV% and more SO's. Even if Ottawa makes the playoffs next yr (which they likely wont with an improved CAR team, TB team, and WSH team which i think they will finish behind, in addition to BOS, BUF, PHI, PIT, NYR, NJ which is 9 teams...) they will likely barely squeek in.

Anderson loses for me on wins for sure, G.A.A for sure, and likely SO. SV% to me is a toss up.

Just wanted to quote this again. As a comparison Anderson was 2.83/.914 last year.

I don't understand the hate-on so many people have for Niemi.....he's been a very good goalie to own in fantasy leagues. I like Anderson and this was a tough matchup, but in a one-year league it's Niemi for me.

Quite surprised that Anderson's winning this one.

Who's better in terms of raw talent is debatable, but Niemi is definitely in a better environment.

I think that is debatable as well. Maybe San Jose has been historically better but I do feel the perception is that San Jose is on the way down and Ottawa is on the way up.

Tough call on this one. I chose Niemi only because I would rather have the mid-quality goalie on a strong team then a mid-quality goalie on an up and coming team. I like the group in front of Niemi more then Andersons group. I guess I have more faith in the proven.

Niemi for me, but it was very close. Anderson just doesn't measure up in the GAA category and SJ is a stronger defensive team and should garner more shutouts for their tender.
