One year league I am going with Andy mcDonald - he puts up points when he is healthy - Berglund is starting to get there but not just yet I think.

If you can afford to add/drop guys then go with Andy McDonald...who will score at a higher point per game clip than Berglund will. If you have to lock in rosters for the full year though I'd probably roll the dice on Berglund.

If you believe in totally unscientific patterns, Berglund is due for a good year, as here are his point totals in the last 4 seasons: 47, 26, 52, 38. Plus, the 38 points last year is a bit deceiving, as he scored at a point per game pace over his last 11 games and showed a lot of drive and maturity that many expect him to carry into this season.
McDonald gives me concerns, as not only does he ALWAYS miss a chunk of games, but, unlike what he'd done in the past, his last couple of seasons he hasn't even scored at a very decent pace when he does manage to play. Berglund also will crush McDonald in PIMs, although McDonald should do better than Berglund in PPPs. +/- should be a wash. In my mind, a case can be made to go with Berglund, even in a one year league, although in truth picking either guy is entirely defensible. |

11/12: 22 points in 25 games 10/11: 50 points in 58 games 09/10: 57 points in 79 games 08/09: 44 points in 46 games So basically he's scoring at almost a point per game and the only season when he played almost all the games he scored 6 more points than Berglund's best season. I love it when people use facts to support their argument...

Even still, I think the points I raised about Berglund are worth considering, and at some point McDonald is bound to either break down or be hurt to an extent that he misses too many games to even merit taking him in a 1 year league. |
