In a convo about 0 gp guys who will get a good look, how has Roman Cervenka NOT come up?!?!?

He will likely get a top 6 role right off the bat based on the contract CGY signed him to.

Then again, he's more high profile than a lot of the guys bandied about here.

That being said, he was a signing not a Calgary draft pick so i'm sure he's flying under the radar in some leagues.

I wouldn't say guarantee for top-six, but I'd say he will probably get a look.

The base salary may be 900k, but he's been signed to 2.85M in performance bonuses making his contract a 3.775M cap hit contract if I understand contracts correctly.

That being said, it's not like Calgary is struggling to reach the floor, in fact according to capgeek they're dealing with only around $3.5M in cap space now. So I would assume that they'd give Cervenka the opportunity to earn that $3.775M cap hit.

especially when you look at their current situation at the center ice position, Cervenka almost looks like a lock on one of the top 2 lines

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't take anything for granted, because these things aren't set in stone. Even if he had a contract that had his current cap hit as actual salary it still wouldn't be a guarantee. Just look at Tim Connolly in Toronto. I love the potential of Cervenka and I've picked him up myself for it, but I'd just temper expectations a bit. I'm hoping for a hot start so I can use him as trade bait...

Probably because most of those "best kept secret forwards not in the NHL" rarely, if ever, pan out when they come over to North America - guys like Jiri Dopita, Fabian Brunnstrom, etc.
