I just got offered this deal in the league in my sig. At first glance I thought this was a slam dunk, but the more I think about it, the more I become hesitant.
As in the title: To me- Martin St. Louis and Keith Yandle To him- Justin Schultz and Ryan Clowe Now, I'm not a fan of Clowe, but Schultz has done amazing things in the AHL and will be developing right alongside the kids in Edmonton. Like as in, never-been-seen-before things. I'm just cautious that he may become that guy I shouldn't have given up. Meanwhile, St. Louis is 37 years old, although I am a huge fan of his. Am I overthinking this? Is it the slam dunk I originally thought?

Should I shop Schultz and see what other offers I get? I read a thread about someone offering Spezza for him...

It's a timeline issue. If you have a shot at winning this year, it looks like a good deal. You might have to turn around and deal St. Louis while he's still valuable though. I'd wait a few weeks and take offers on Schultz, the hype is just about to peak and then we'll see what he does at the next level.

Do it. I would do it, even if I didn't have a chance to win now, which you do. Yandle is only 26 years old, he's got a lot of time left, and is at a level points wise, that Schultz hopes to get to. Yandle is far more proven, and there is no guarentee Schultz even gets there, let alone becomes better than Yandle.
Anytime you can turn Clowe into St. Louis, you do it, I don't care how old St. Louis is, he's much better. Way I see it, you get the two best players in the deal by a huge margin. |

I would do this deal. Proven vs unproven. With your categories the jump from Clowe to St. Louis (even given his age) is astounding. Worse comes to worse you get 2-3 more decent years from him or trade him again to a contender if you are out of the running.

Yes - you are overthinking it. You're letting potential and St. Louis' age cloud your judgment, when you should be looking at production. St. Louis still has at least 2-3 years of solid production and Yandle is still a number one defenseman who has shown that he can produce at a high level.
