Would it be that horrible if the Jets signed him? Could one young, aloof player do that much damage to a team surrounded by solid character people? Zherdev's got to know he is (or is very near) on his last leg in the NHL, so maybe that puts a burr under his saddle?
Zherdev doesn't seem like the type of player that the organization is targeting; however, the fact that he named Winnipeg as the place he'd like to sign says to me that maybe Cheveldayoff at least has a conversation with him. I just wonder if there's any real chance Chevy's at all interested. Probably not, but the team could certainly use a bit of depth up front, particularly on the right side.

Well it's a very low risk high reward move in my opinion. I'd take him in for a tryout.
This reminds me of the Afinogenov situation 2 years back, an outcome which I was VERY pleased with. Max wanted to play in Atlanta, and the Thrashers took him in on a tryout to where he eventually signed a 1 year deal. The reward? A 24 goal, 61 point season. He became a fan favorite in his short time with the team, and he brought a lot of excitement. Everytime he had the puck I was just waiting for something brilliant to happen. Afinogenov had such a great season. He backchecked, forechecked, went hard to the net, had the same ole dangle skills... I could see Zherdev being similar to Afinogenov.
