keep 7 now and moving to a dynasty format next season. Current 7 keepers look like this:

OV/JVR/Tavares/Seguin/Pietrangelo/Rask/Lehner

prospects(protect all): Yakupov/Coyle/Granlund/Mrazek

a.)would you rather keep pietrangelo over a more hit heavy guy like phaneuf?

i don't own phaneuf but it would cost me a mid rd pick upgrade + pietrangelo for phaneuf. league is pretty multi cat oriented so most guys have the ability to charge a bit more if the dman puts up pts and hits/pim etc. however pietrangelo imho is in an elite class of dman who could post over 50 pts every year. (karlsson, letang, Buff, yandle, etc) So does the pts from the back end outweigh phaneufs dominance in other cats?

b.)also this secondary question is more universal to hockey itself i guess..do you think phaneuf can still put up 40ish pts every year in toronto after rielly + gardiner see steady PP time and are regulars? or do you see franson and the above two eventually forcing phaneuf to take on a shut down role, secondary PP time, and a pay cut to stay on with the leafs hypothetically after his current contract runs out. (i think he's got 2-3 years left on it)

i know that its alot of hypothetical pieces to look at in the 2nd question but im just interested in how as of today you would see that logjam play out. gardiner already last season bumped phaneuf off the top PP unit a few times, rielly being more touted offensively then either leads me to believe he will take PP1 within his first few seasons. franson is showing elite PP skills as well this season and seems to be getting some "love" from carlyle. Him being very young still its not far fetched that if he continues to see the same mins he could maintain a slightly similar pace to what he has now.(i think it will drop off a bit tho).
Keep AP over Dion.

I like your line of thinking, and I really like the fact you are thinking ahead like that. With d-men it is all about relative value - Phaneuf has more value to the Leafs in a shutdown role relative to offense compared to Gardiner or Rielly.

I don't see this happening for at least two years though... so do you want to wait that long?
