I think the problem was that outside of Selanne, they didn't have any offensive threats beyond their top line. If opponents dedicated most of their efforts on Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan, the rest of the forwards wouldn't be much of an issue.
Combine that with a very average D core and you have tough nights more often than not for Hiller. Since they haven't really upgraded anywhere, and now they are out Visnovsky, I don't foresee things playing out much differently this season.
