You probably wouldn't go and store a Bud Light for anything longer than 2 months before it turns to shit. Prolly shit to begin with actually. Only proper beers with high ABV like Westy 12 could be stored for that length of time.

The following styles are the most likely styles that would benefit from this kind of treatment. Barleywines, imperial stouts, Belgian style beers that are 10%+.

It is hard to do. I haven't held onto a beer that long, but I did hang on to some bottles of wine for 5 years before. That is my personal best. 5 years.
