Agree with those saying it should have just been 1 movie. The beginning dragged on forever; the whole scene in the goblin's mountain was pointless except for Bilbo meeting Gollum. The stone giants...what a waste of CGI. Didn't those Giants only appear in 1 chapter in all the Tolkien works combined? And even then it wasn't clear whether they were literally stone giants, or just a metaphor for a storm?
Maybe i'm remembering wrong.
I still enjoyed the movie, I mean, it's Peter Jackson doing The Hobbit, and it had a great cast...of course it's gonna be good. But if it was a single 3 hour epic, it had the potential to be as good as the LOTR films. Tho I expect the 2nd half of the story to really deliver.
I like that Peter Jackson and HBO will be in a little mini-race here to see who can make the best CGI dragons. Hopefully HBO takes notes for future seasons of Game of Thrones.
