It's a good point.
As actual-value goes... Schenn is the highest rated value defenseman (of the OP's listed free agents).
Attached is my own mathematical model for a 7-cat league including Hits.

Luke Schenn comes in at #27. (for 2012-2013 stats)
Fantasy-trade-value not considered... I agree... he's the guy.
Defensemen should be drafted for PIM & Hits - so Schenn is a perfect fit.

(again... Markov is only a trade-value opinion... by actual fantasy-value, I concur on Schenn.)
