Good summary and I don't disagree with your analysis. My purpose of the post was to draw attention to the amazing play of a very hot new rookie.

I agree that the NHL is unlikely to award both the Calder and the Norris to the same player in the same year. Even Bobby Orr didn't pull that off.

Lets be clear Edmonton not only won the lottery for the first overall pick which landed Yakupov they won the FA sweepstakes with the Schultz signing.

Schultz may turn out to be even better than Yakupov but I accept that it will take a few more games to make that true assesment but no doubt if Schultz continues to produce the way he has started off it will certainly raise some serious buzz.

I'll refer you to the phrases 'last year' and 'offensive zone starts'. Last year refers to the season BEFORE this one, what he's doing now isn't valid when we're comparing his rookie season to Schultz's.

Offensive Zone Starts refers to coming onto the ice when your team has a faceoff in the offensive zone, not when your team is on the power play so your point about 'most even strength points' is just as meaningless.

I'm not saying Karlsson is a bad player, its just humorous how he can be an elite defenceman, but a young player on a different team following a similar trajectory couldn't POSSIBLY do what Karlsson did since be doesn't play for your team. Shouldn't expect anything different from Big Ev though.

Nothing wrong with being partial to the team you support and your teams players.

No question that Karlsson is a hell of an offensive powerhouse but in my opinion as we go forward Schukz will be able to match Karlsson's offense but Schultz is looking like a better all round player.

OK, now after a total of 5 NHL games, he is a better all round player than the current Norris winner. We have reached a new level.

Agreed ... Just a little early to say that after 5 games he is better than Karlsson providing the sample size. Let's analyze this after the season is over (or even 2 seasons) before we jump to conclusions.

Buddy, Karlsson in terms of skill is right up there with the Crosbys and Malkins.
Schutlz is not following his projection at all. The guy took 4 years of college to get here first of all. Karlsson just won a Norris at 21.

You can't compare their rookie seasons either because of that and their age.

Schultz has nowhere near the level of skill that Karlsson has. Period.

Agreed as well. Schultz has looked good so far but let's keep the hype in check and refrain from mentioning his name in the same breath as Orr. Even to compare his all around game to Karlsson is crazy to me, Karlsson led all Dmen in takeaways last season if I'm not mistaken. Anyways, young players and especially young Dmen do not always follow a linear progression so extrapolating based on this season's stats so far is wrought with folly. As an example just look at Tyler Myers, i remember him being talked about as the next Chara in his rookie season. One must also remember that Schultz is benefiting from being in mid-season condition and form having played in the AHL for 34 games, but he also has never played what will amount to 82 games (between the AHL and the NHL if he plays all 48) in a season before and we could see him hit a wall in the latter part of this year. All that being said the kid has some great potential.

That's tough to gauge in 5 pro games.

They can both run the shi7 out of a PP, that's for sure.
