Why would you want to buyout Shawn Horcoff? He is the only Oilers center that knows which end of the ice his goaltender plays in. He is also owed less than $10,000,000 over the next 3 seasons combined. The Oilers also have over $12,000,000 in cap hits coming off the books for next season assuming Sutton, Peckham, Khabubin and the oft-injured Ryan Whitney are not re-signed. That leaves them with $10,500,000 in cap room with a $60M cap to sign 3 forwards (Gagner, Hartikainen, and a 13th forward) and 2 dmen (assuming none of Klefbom, Musil, Teubert, Fedun, Marincin, Plante are ready for the NHL) and a back up goaltender.

If the Salary cap drops to $60 Million, the Oilers should be looking to buyout Eric Belanger as the salary for 4th line forwards is definitely not going to be $1.75 million/season.

I'd say Wade Redden but he isn't hurting the Rangers team cap. Its too bad for Redden because until that contract is eaten, he will be riding the bus in the AHL.

If I am to pick just one, I would say Mike Komisarek. He isnt even a good 5/6 D in the league and eating up 4.5M in cap space for another couple years.

Honorable mention - Rick Dipietro. Since someone else already mentioned him I will throw out Komisarek as my choice but Dipietro right now is the worst contract out there.

On a side note, not sure how many even realize this but Alexei Yashin is still counting against the Islanders cap. Even though he was bought out, his is still counting against the Islanders cap for 2.2M until 2014/15

Because he's a 5.5M cap hit until 2014/15. He's a third line C and while you say he's knows what end his goalie plays in, he's still a -22 player. While he may know where his goalie is, he isnt helping him enough. He cashed in one his one good season, limited offensive ability and his defense has progressively gotten worse.

Belanger's contract at 1.75M is only until 2013/14. I would much rather ride that contract out then Horcoff's.
