That's a good list, though I probably should have said last 20 years.
I think the NHL has been a different style since the early 90s... bigger defensemen with more checking.

LaFontaine & Ronning played in more-open, less physical locations.

Briere's really only had that one big season, everything else is 72 or less. That's a pretty good Ennis comparison.

Saku Koivu always seemed to play a bit bigger than his size.

Marc Savard is probably the best comparison. I really like that one!!!
Sending you some REP for some good comparisons.

I think we may be adding Desharnais to that list in a couple of years

Thanks for the message P7. Without hockey going and no fantasy leagues to occupy massive amounts of my time I've been focusing on a bunch of other things. Will be on a bit more though - thanks for asking!

Last year, if I recall, Ennis was centering the third line (with Foligno) out of necessity - and performed rather admirably. He's far too talented for a third line role, and is better suited as a second line winger.

Ott is considered a center because of his face off ability, He could easily center the third line OR if the Sabres need more muscle up front he could be moved to the wing on line #2.

I think Foligno is more the wild card. If he can maintain his current level of tenacity + production throughout a full 82 games he could be elevated to the second line. Offense drops off and he'll fall back to line #3 - paired w/ Ott? - that would make for a nasty third line.

Win/Win all around if ya ask me.
Ott should not be considered a center at all. He takes faceoffs and that's it. The rest of the time he plays the left wing. His own words.

Agreed 100%.

Unfortunately the local media dolts insist on referring to him as a center.

Ott can play center... and HAS.
If you guys want to argue with Brandon Worley (managing editor of Defending Big D), you go right on ahead.

ps. The thread is about Ennis.
dakk- how many times are you going to troll me talking about Ott at center... can't you say something in this thread about Ennis???... or is the Ott comment all you have to contribute?
{shaking head...}

If you want to argue with Ott himself, you go right on ahead.

It's that simple. He's a leftwinger who takes faceoffs. His own words. Of course he can play center in a pinch, but he is far and away more comfortable and better on the wing.

Why you keep butting heads about this when you have Ott's own words against you is just beyond me. Embarrassing, really.

If Ott is playing center, he's a center.
If Ott is playing left wing, he's a left wing.
If Ott is taking face-offs, he should be chalked up as a fantasy center.

What's embarrassing is the way you go around on the forums nitt-picking everything to death and not really contributing anything new.

****ing contribute something... bring some value to these boards instead of being such a bitch.
