I have no problem with them getting paid whatever the market will allow - even if that's millions of dollars. That's not my issue at all.

I find the fact that they are stealing jobs from others and claiming to be a union to be laughable though.

The story of the humble down to earth hockey player that just loves to play the game is now myth, legend, even conspiracy theory. All you see now are greedy selfish hyporcites. Yet, the consumer ultimately holds the power in this situation. I would advise them to wield it with force.

Well, me too, truth be told. But I also think there is enough blame with which to choke all involved in this debacle.

People who play hockey just because they love it - that's called a beer league. Pro hockey is their job. Yes they get paid well, but there are non-athletes who are millionaires too.

Correct except that there isnt a perpetuated storyline pushed through media for those non-athletes who are millionaires.

I don't think players should be faulted for wanting the money promised to them in contracts they signed in good faith.

The PA may have their faults, but I have no pity for owners who throw gobs of cash at players via obscenely front-loaded contracts in an attempt to circumvent the very CBA they demanded the players sign during their last go-around....only to then cry poor when their ill-managed team fails to make the playoffs (continually), and demands Bettman to do something about it.

That's just a kick in my nuts.

I don't blame the players either for being right ripped about how this all went down. Both sides, like you said, are totally to blame.

I just found it really irritating that other people are being forced to take a pay cut because the players won't - and in some cases two layers of people (other players in other leagues and other employees connected to the NHL). Some folks might want to defend unions but the NHLPA isn't even behaving like how a normal union behaves in the way that they are stealing jobs from others.

Agreed. The economic ripple effect this is having on secondary personnel (eg vendors, restaurant workers, lot attendants et al) is unconscionable.

Dude, when you get screwed out of money you get mad, I dont care who you are. The players might be "in the wrong" strategically perhaps, I dont know and dont really care, but I think its BS for people to be ripping them on a personal level on forums etc.

Deal with your anger man. Im spending all this free time well, I lost 20 lbs in the last three months.

If it takes a lost season or two (please God no) to get a long-term sustainable economic model in place it'll be worth it. Players and owners both have to give concessions on this.

The owners have to reconcile their internal differences so big market teams and small market teams all benefit. The players will have to give a chunk of their salaries back (again) to make it work. They felt they got hosed last time, but they ended up doing all right in the end.

As much as I'm pro-player in this iteration of the lockout, in the long run the economic model has to benefit everyone. Otherwise, we're going to see this every time the CBA expires.
