Thanks for your comments md!

On my draft list, I had Stamkos, then Ovechkin as 1-2 as Stamkos is 4 yrs OV's junior and less of a cap hit (by about $2M). It was odd to see OV get taken 10th overall.

I had Erik Karlsson, then Letang on my D draft list and I absolutely LOVE Letang in roto leagues. Doughty came in around #5 for me.

I've told our commish (I'm not commish in this one!) that the salary cap may be too low - how could a guy like Datsyuk go undrafted!? There are several top end players that weren't taken mostly due to cap reasons. So if one of your top guys gets hurt, you can put him on IR and effectively replace him quite easily. It's not reflective of the NHL, when a team loses a top guy, they have to find a replacement from within, not bring in a Lecavalier or Vanek from the Free Agent wire!

I love the team I drafted (Flying Hellfish), but the draft was tough as many of my players kept getting scooped. I took as many young talented players as I could manage under the cap and filled in the gaps with great values. Unfortunately, many of the great values were taken right under my nose, so I ended up with good value players!

I usually have very strong goaltending and the best defence, but this time, I ended up with what I think will be the top scoring forward group in the pool. With the way the categories are structured, it's almost like double-tapping the points: G, A, Pts, PiMs, Hits, BS, SOG, Fwd Pts, Def Pts, then 3 cats for Goalies: Wins(2pts)+OTL(1 pt)+ShO(3 pts) as one category, GAA, SV%.

I only have one player over 30, the 31 year old Craig Anderson, the rest are all in their early to mid-20's. This is very important as it's a Dynasty League where we keep 25 players and then draft another 10 every year.

I'm pretty sure one could build a team from the waiver wire and compete just fine for 2-3 seasons.. I know that I'd be looking at ways to swap some salary for 1st rounders in order to scoop Datsyuk.

How much are hits worth, because Chara in round one (with a $7+ caphit) seems kinda crazy????

We used a 65 mil cap and we used last year's cap hits so I got Karlsson and Tavares at low costs. In our 10-team league we had a lot of excellent players go undrafted including Doughty, Thornton, Zetterburg, Keith, Gaborik, EStaal, Ryan Miller, Yandle, Cam Ward and more. It was because of their cap hit in relation to our 65 M cap. After our 20 round draft, players became free agents with the minimum starting bid being 25% of their cap hit. The teams that appear the best stocked up on young, cheap players during the draft and kept a lot of cap space for free agency. For example, Staal, Gaborik, Thornton, and Zetterberg all went between 3.2 and 4.1 M. Miller and Ward went for around 2.5 M.

We won't have your problem of replacing an injured superstar with a free agent superstar since you get only half of a player's salary for injury replacement purposes.

Overall, managing the cap and issuing contracts involve more levels of planning and consideration and makes the league fascinating. I'm in another league that doesn't have a cap and it's not nearly as interesting. Good stuff Comish!
