i never said pitkanan wasn't a valuable d-man...
i just don't think that he will get in the way of faulk's offensive upside.

love it that Faulk is getting some air time.

I agree that his two way game may get in the way of his offensive production, but he was anchoring the top unit down the stretch, so there is a strong chance that this continues. If so and if he seizes the opportunity, the sky is the limit.

Here's hoping

No one was surprised when you drafted him over Murray - however, we were surprised when Murray was drafted over so many

And with McBain/Corvo/Pitkanen and Murphy on the way I don't see this changing.

Meanwhile, Schultz basically is being handed the #1PPQB role behind a core of young star forwards.
That has never stopped lidstrom dought keith weber etc from getting their fair share of pp time.

I thought we all might want to see were we all had Mr. Faulk ranked last year in our rankings of D prospects... http://forums.dobbersports.com/showt...lk+ellis+orlov

We all certainly missed the boat there and had him way to low imo. I had him 12 and I don't think anyone had him top 10. If we redue the list today you can't keep him out of top 5 imo. Kid is a stud ready to happin. He had one of the best second halfs to the season amung any rookies last year. Went on to tear up WC and is scorching hot, making the AHL his bitch as we speak. Did I mention he led his team in min/g as a 19 year old rookie defenseman last year, (by a fairly large margin) which is close to unheard of. He a sure fire 45 point++ future d-man in my opinion and more importanly in the opinion of the entire Carolina organization. They are head and heels in love with his talent. He is number 1 on there depth chart already. SKY's the limit.

Did I mention I got him as an undrafted FA last year and signed him to a 3 year min contract

When you consider that he is a full two years younger than Schultz I think his numbers are even more impressive. I think many poolies don't realize just how extraordinarily good Faulks development has been over the past year; highlighted by a brilliant showing at the WC (4-4-8, +7 in 8 gp). A few GMs in my league were surprised when i took faulk 8th ov in our entry draft this summer ahead of the likes of Murray, Dumba, Rielly, Gardiner among others. but i am a huge believer in him, not just because of his on ice skill but his dedication to the game; he reminds me of kris letang in that sense. This kid is going to burst onto the fantasy scene in the very near future and I recommend acquiring him while the price is still reasonable.

Don't just take it from me, here's canes GM Jim Rutherford with some pretty high praise:
"Yes," he said during his annual "State of the Canes" address to fans. "Playing defense in the NHL is very difficult and playing at 19 is even more difficult. But as long as I've been around the game, even as far back as when I played, I've never seen anyone handle the position like Justin Faulk has as a teenager." The organization is certainly holding out hope that Faulk is able to duplicate that effort in 2012-13 in order to create some measure of continuity along the back end. "We've had defensemen come into the League like [Bobby] Orr, [Denis] Potvin and [Phil] Housley, who were great offensive players, but I've never seen a player play so well defensively and offensively at his age," Rutherford said. "I can't describe it well enough to tell [fans] what they're in store for having this great young player." (Source: nhl.com)
Props to you Buck Fish for getting props from Angus in his latest ramblings. My take on Faulk is that he will be roto stud and I'm considering holding onto in my league over Phaneuf. We will see.

Don't want to hijack, but would you ship Faulk for Voracek if you were me?

Both seem pretty equal in value and I am not sure who would be more helpful to my squad now and in the future. All I know is that I am liking Faulk more and more...

I'm a big voracek fan and would usually prefer the fwd in a comparison like this because it is very hard to predict a dmans development.. However, with your league settings giving extra value to dman goals, I would lean towards keeping Faulk on this one. He had 8 goals in 66 gp last year, including 5 on the PP, and also holds the US NTDP record for goals in a season by a dman with 21. I think he could prove to be especially valuable in your league if he ends up being as good as I think he will be.

There won't be much to hold Faulk back from becoming the #1 defence man in Carolina in the next year or two
