STUDS "Broad Street Bullies": The Flyers took the Islanders' lunch money last night. Once the bell rung at 3 O'Clock, that -ss got whooped to the tune of 7-0! Claude Giroux: 3pts (2G,1A) on 4 shots with an even +/-. Jakub Voracek: 4pts (0G,4A) on 4 shots with a +3. Matt Read: 3pts (1G,2A) on 3 shots with a +3. Danny Briere: 3pts (2G,1A) on 3 shots with a +1. Schenn: 2pts (1G,1A) on 1 shot with a +3. That's 5 players with multi-point performances in this one. What more can I say, but filthy! "Just change my jersey number to 00 ": Ben Scrivens with a masterful 37 save performance lastnight. If you haven't been counting, that's back to back shut outs now. Since Reimer has been out, Scrivens has managed to post a .971sv%, 1.12GAA and a 2-1-1 record. If he keeps blanking teams like this, perhaps a blank check will be coming his way. "Time to make the doughnuts!!": Between the doughnuts and robberies that took place, there should have been cops all over the place. We had 7 games played last night and 4 of them were shutouts. Out of the 4 shutouts, two of them were posted by back up goalies (Scrivens and Budaj). The 4 shutouts: Scrivens had 37 saves on 37 shots vs. Florida. Mike Smith with 30 saves on 30 shots vs. Calgary. Peter Budaj with 19 saves on 19 shots vs. Carolina. Ilya Bryzgalov with 19 saves on 19 shots vs. The New York Islanders. Honorable Mention: Matt Duchene - 3pts (1G,2A). Apparently, the guy is so good, he can score offsides. Ironic, his goal shouldn't have counted and yet, in the end, it did. Col wins 6-5. A few Coyotes... Raffi Torres with 2pts (1G,1A); Vermette with 2 pts (1G,1A); Moss with 2 pts (0G,2A) OEL with 2pts (0G,2A). Nazem Kadri with a 2pt (1G,1A) performance. I thought he might slow after Frattin was lost, but it seems he's starting to fulfill his promise. I believe that's 12pts in 15GP. Not too bad Mr. Kadri. Duds "Treasure Island": The Flyers really had a night to remember. They totally had their way with the Islanders, getting in that -ss and plundering their booty to the tune of 7 goals while blanking them. Yes, this was a complete thorough #1 Dud job. This very well may have been the type of game that propels the Flyers to new heights and sinks a young Islanders team who is still learning how to win. Boy the Islanders sure could have used a couple hat tricks from Tavares. :-\ "Flickering Flames": So far in February we have a loss, win, win, loss, loss, win, loss, win, loss. God this team needs some consistency - * cough * Kipper * cough * Watching this goalie carousel is actually making me dizzy: The Leland Irving project - FAIL. Experiment McDonald - FAIL. The Danny Taylor trial run - FAIL. What's next, a raffle with the winning ticket getting a surpise start in goal for the Flames? "Staaled Offense": Coming into lastnight's game, the Hurricanes were putting up 3 or more goals in 7 of their last 8. I'm sure everyone figured that Carolina would be in tough at Mtl, but I doubt that anyone saw them getting blanked by Budaj, especially if you would have been told that the Staal brothers would have 9 SOG on goal between the two of them. Sometimes you just get the kibosh put to you, or in this case, the Budaj. See you after next Moon day's activities, One.
