Another stay the course vote here. The big issue for Grioux is that the team is no longer insulated by quality veterans and has tipped too heavily towards youth. Jagr and Hartnell not only provided size and talent, but were part of a thinning and aging leadership core inside the Philly locker room. That leadership core has dwindled from Pronger, Timonen, Briere, Jagr, Laperier, Hartnel, Richards, and Carter (say what you will about the leadership of the latter two) to Timonen, Briere, and Giroux over just two seasons. Not only is that a major loss of leadership, but a huge loss of insulating talent. The lack of experience is really showing through and the entire lineup has been incredibly inconsistent as a result (just listen to Grioux rip the team after the game last night against the Habs).
Will Giroux rebound from where he is now? Most certainly when Hartnell returns, but I don't think there is enough upside there this year for that much risk.

"Who cares if he outscored jagr by 30 or 40 points"?
I do. Most people do. Hartnell will be back in the middle of next week. Schenn and Voracek are starting to warm up. The team will produce much better in the near future. One question. Do you really think the risk of trading Wheeler/Pavelski for Giroux (+ waiver pickup) is so great, it's not worth doing? I don't. I'd do it. But that's just my opinion. Next year when Jagr isn't in Dallas anymore and Benn has a slow start to the season, I won't be bailing on him and saying it's because Jagr left town. But, that's just me. I don't know why you'd want to compare Giroux to Kane, Ovie and Richards when they are all in totally different situations. Ovie has had 3 diff coaches with 3 different styles in the last 18 months. They took one of the most lethal snipers and tried to turn him into Michael Peca. Kane probably attended as many frat parties as he did practices last while (although he has obviously dedicated himself this year). Do you think Giroux shares Pat Kanes party habits? Richards (33 years old is worth noting) was traded from the Stars to the NY Rangers, he experienced an 11 point drop from the year before. I'd personally never put my eggs in the basket of a guy recently traded. James Neal comes to mind. It can take a bit of time and it's usually smart to go anther way. These are the things I consider when I determine my opinion about Girioux's next few months. I'd like to see that offer come across my screen. Not much to lose and a whole lot to gain. Good luck. |

Yes. I know absolutely nothing about hockey. You are very wise Satan. Your words are very revealing.
Jagr is a big presence and offers a lot of intangables but I believe Girioux (+ pickup) is worth Wheeler/Pavs in spite of losing Jagr's godlike contributions. You don't sound condecending, you just like you have a major crush on Jagr. KGB920's question was about the trade he was offered and not about assessing Jagr's contributions. Chill out Beelzebub. |

If you do this deal, who steps in to the empty spot on your roster?

I'd do it.
Actually, in my league I did do it. Gave up Pavelski and Tarasenko for Giroux. I'm currently in first place though so I can afford to wait for Giroux to start producing while the rest of my team stays hot. Once Hartnell comes back I have no doubt in my mind that he will start producing again.
