I've watched a few games and he has been pretty bad. Granted, the Leafs goalies have been letting in some soft ones, but his defensive play has been horrible.

When you lose 5-2 (against the Rangers) and you go -4 there is something wrong.

Yeah, I can see that to some degree the table is set for him to take a beating on the +/- side. Would be nice to see it offset with some offensive production though.

I could rant endlessly about how inherently flawed Phaneuf is, but I would just get too angry.
So I'll just sum it up with 2 things to keep my stress level down.

1. He's overrated (and has been for years).
2. He's being overplayed.

That's a recipe for failure. And for a nasty + / -.

p.s. The irony in breaking Lupul's arm is priceless, considering Phaneuf misses the net 99 times out of 100. But when a valuable teammate is standing in front of the net, HEY NO PROBLEM COACH - HEAD DOWN, SLAPPER ON NET, ARM HEIGHT. Boom.

Yes. Yes I do hate Phaneuf.

Phaneuf logs huge minutes, kills penalties, is on the man advatage, is a leader etc.

What more do we expect out of him??

We expect him to do all that but....a lot better.

As eyemissgilmour said, he is overated.

At least its not as bad as paying Pronger for the next SEVEN years!
