Default Pietrangelo Koivu for RNH Weber

Points only league with potential to keep one or both of these guys for next year...

Team A gets:

Pietrangelo
Koivu
6th round pick next season

Team B gets:

RNH
Weber
8th round pick next season

Who wins? Koivu is on my bench and Petro is a stud. I don't like the fact that Weber is off to an extremely slow start, but the potential to keep RNH for years to come is enticing...

Note that I only get to keep 4 players from year to year (see sig) and right now my keepers are Sedin, Backstrom, Ovie and...? Plus I would have the problem of benching one of my starting forwards (in bold) in favor of RNH (I can bump Sharp to W).

It sounds to me like you are looking at this primarily from a Keeper perspective rather than winning this year. Based on that, I'd do this deal. Here's why:

Scoring does not favour D in your league, so, do you want a 60 point D or a 100 Point F? Give me the F.

This really boils down to Pieteragelo vs RNH. If you buy into the notion the Oilers could be something very special for years to come then RNH has huge value. Are the Blues going to be something special for years to come? A damn good team yes, but the potential of the Oilers offence is extremely tempting??

You help your draft next year with the swap of picks. Not much, but every little bit helps.

If you get RNH is he a keeper? Yes. Of all the forwards you have, who has the potential to put up 100 pts? Only OV, and that's looking less and less likely. IMO, RNH next year and beyond is your best forward.

What will the point differential be between Pieteragelo and Enstrom, Shatts, Goli or Kronwall? All these guys could be very close. Point is, you have guys who can replace Pieteragelo and your net loss will not impact your net gain if RNH hits his potential.

Building for the future, get younger. Mission accomplished.

So a few things to consider. I'm not saying this is an easy decision, but there are a lot of facts that support doing this as a solid keeper move. It boils down to who you consider to be the best player in the deal and in the right situation to reach their potential. Personally, I think Pieteragelo has reached his potential and will be hard pressed to duplicate or exceed last years effort. RNH on the other hand looks poised to become fantasy gold.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thanks for the input guys (especially the lengthy analysis by Bubba!). The trade as of this year doesnt really change anything for me. The hope, as mentioned, is to keep RNH so that he'll turn out to be a fantasy stud for years to come. I am, however, going to find it difficult to keep RNH over some of my other forwards (there isn't as much value keeping a D or G in my league). This would be a heck of a lot easier in a couple years from now when the Oilers are really developed and a threat (hopefully).

I take the RNH side and don't think twice to be honest. Weber to Pietrangelo is a lot less of a difference than RNH to Koivu.

That's the way I was looking at it also.
