Not really room to keep any of Schultz, Phaneuf or Fowler. Atleast I wouldn't keep any of those three.
The more I look at Carcillo's comments...the more I have to agree. Especially if there's no season and you can't cash in on Phaneuf or Fowler over Schultz. That said...the draft pick is an upgrade regardless as long as you get to use it (should next year's draft be cancelled).

I think it's at best a lateral move for the players involved (even though Phaneuf is more valuable now than Fowler and Fowler just as...if not more valueable than Shultz...end of the day...it doesn't matter)...both will likely get dropped...but the pick is a sure thing upgrade.

Still a no brainer for me...I'd accept.

I'd take the Phaneuf side of that deal with very, very little thought.

A proven performer and a better pick? Yes please every day of the week.

Ya know, I have Schultz in a points-only keeper and wouldn't move him for Phaneuf.

I know its all hype right now, but kid's situation is unreal heading forward.

As for Phaneuf - seriously, he's a 40-45pt blueliner now and that's with EVERY opportunity in the world in TO.

I'm not dying to keep a 45pt guy...but I'll keep a kid who has a chance to be a complete offensive stud. Particularly if these guys are gonna be your last keeper. Schultz may not pan out, but I'm willing to keep him and see if he does.

As for the pick upgrade - I'm in the group that thinks smart drafting can happen anytime in a draft. 3rd for 8th sounds great, but that's not a deal-maker for me.

rueben smart drafting can take place anywhere, but you will have more options open to you with a 3rd. This is a limited keeper so that 3rd will have something very good left there, where the 8th will not have nearly as much talent left.

Ha! On further review - I may take my comment back b/c I missed the parts about neither being keepers.

If that's set in stone....then YES take the upgraded pick.

Each league is different, so I was thinking of mine.

I apologize to any I offended.

That being said, I'd still prefer the upside of Schultz and his situation to the 40-45ish of Phaneuf.

Especially as a 4th blueliner, or last keeper (if that was the case)...or as a possible replacement to the two the original poster is keeping from his farm (if that's an available move).

I would have already accepted without giving it much thought. If its not a full keeper Phaneuf will put up more points this year and the pick is some nice icing on the cake. Pull the trigger before he reads this thread!

Default Need advice.

I Had counter offered the same manager:

My Schultz and Hall

For

His Ovi

He has now countered with:

My Schultz, Hall and Schneider

For

His Ovi and Backstrom (Min) and he will be dropping Phaneuf

Here is a recap of his roster.

Matt Duchene, Derek Roy, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Thornton, Curtis Glencross, Thomas Vanek, Rick Nash, Alex Ovechkin, Sam Gagner, Jakub Voracek, Ales Hemsky,
Patric Hornqvist, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Cam Fowler, Dion Phaneuf, Ryan Ellis. Kiprusoff, Backstrom
Farm: Jonathan Huberdeau, Sean Couturier

Thoughts? Thank you so much for all the advice and for hopefully more to come.
