Hooray Beer Thread!!!!!
Amen!

Even if the only gain I'd made was the introduction of Rochefort 10 to my life I'd consider this thread to be worthwhile in every sense of the word.

Anyone tried Anchor's Merry Christmas Happy New Year this season (it's different each year)? My brother gave me a Jeroboam for Christmas, so I'll need to pop it for a party of some sort, but I don't want to represent it as something too special if it's pedestrian.

I agree on this take on the Anchor Steam; I drank a fair amount when I was first dipping my toe into craft beers, but haven't had many since I've discovered better (in my opinion) options.

Also, I had touted a Trader Joe's beer a few months ago, and just tried a new one, so I figured I'd mention it. This was a tripel brewed by Unibroue. I love Fin du Monde, but this was right next to it on the shelf and only $5 (very cheap for beer in DC). It was not great, but definitely had the Belgian yeast notes I love. It was sort of reminiscent of holiday fruit cake without the sweetness. Had an overall bready smell and taste, but in a clean way. has a lower alcohol content than the style dictates, but that coupled with the light mouthfeel and carbonation makes this sort of a Belgian version of a session beer, and for the price I can afford to quaff it more in that mindset.

Drank Sam Adams' new tripel the next day (I'm just off vacation) and that really threw some perspective on how light the Trader Joe's was.

Tis the weekend laddies and what tis it we will be drinking? I know that was a crappy attempt at fake Scottish, sue me eh?

Eh? Really...Eh?!?! Geez now I'm throwing cheesy Canuck stereotypes in the mix too, well blimey. Damn now I'm throwing Brit slang in here. Crikey! Ah shit....

Got some more Union Jack, and just finishing up all these odds and ends left in the fridge. Red's Rye, Founders Porter, Fuller's London, Bitch Creek ESB, Jockamo IPA, Turbodog, Sixth Glass, and a big 'ol double helping of Tandoori Shrimp and some Lamb Vindaloo on the side. Between all the beer and Indian food they're going to have to roll me to bed or leave me here in the chair like a beached whale.

Might even fire up an FNMT later, who knows. We'll see where the festivities lead....

Malbec night for me. Just a very windy, cold shitty night so I'm hunkered down watching Devil Inside. Seem like a good night for vino and some of the Lady's leftover lasagna.

Saving the Little Sumpin' for tomorrow's eve of football.

On a side note: GO USA!! (8am baby!!)

Tonight for me in the fridge its some homebrew IPA and a Hop Zombie. I'm waiting for my other IPA to carb up now. It wont be ready until the 15th. Tomorrow is brewday! I'm brewing an Irish Red. I feel like I should be brewing more IPAs tho. I'm a freaking hop head. Can't get enough of the stuff. The thing that makes it hard is I know I could conceivably run out of my only IPA batch before the next one is ready. I'll have to resort to buying some!

I've done pretty well over the Xmas break with not having to buy beer. Now that I have most of the brewing equipment, it has finally gotten to the point where it is a good economical choice to brew beer. It will always be less than $1.50 for a 750ml bottle, sometimes as low as $1.00. That is good value.

That homebrew route is beginning to entice me.....may have to look into that in the not too distant future.

For the meantime though...finishing up a 17 day stint in Kihei, Maui...what a place. Aside from a great visit to Maui Brewing Co, and some solid local brews, the Islands are not a haven for craft brew. However, a trip to Whole Foods this morning, yielded three 22 oz Bombers of Fresh Sculpin!!

One of the best IPA's if you can ever get your hands on it.

Enjoy the weekend boys!

I'm a fan of the Ballast Point Big Eye IPA. Haven't had the Sculpin, but I really like the Big Eye IPA . Freaking awesome beer that! I picked that one up on the same day that I bought the Racer 5. For me, the Big Eye was way better than the Racer 5. Personal opinion...

Oh man, Lagunitas Little Sumpin' is very nice. Not my go to Winter beer, but definitely a beer to keep in mind for the lazy hazy days of Summer. A big grilled hunk of halibut springs to mind.
