Angus here - published an extensive profile of Max Pacioretty today - 'The Search for a Superstar.' Hope you enjoy.

Mike Green has been signed. A three-year deal worth over $6 million per year, as per Mirtle. Too risky? Good value? He is a certified Band-Aid Boy. How much would you pay?

It’s a weird summer when a week after an owner hands two players $50 million over the next 730 days… the NHL tells the NHLPA that they need salaries to decrease by 19% (that’s the portion of 57% that the drop to 46% is). And the very day that this statement is made, word leaks that a second-line winger with great leadership qualities has been offered $7.5 million per year.

That’s exactly what Shane Doan has been offered by an undisclosed team – over $30 million for four years.

A tip of the hat to Puck Daddy’s Sean Leahy for this link. The KHL and NHL have signed a “Memorandum of Understanding 2012” detailing how they will honor each other’s contracts.

Slow news these days – only 24 news items in my feed. A feed which, for example, would have 240 on a typical day during the season. On one hand, it sure makes ramblings quick. On the other hand…no it doesn’t. I end up spending a long time thinking up things. Like what do you think of these line combos for Calgary:

Tanguay – Cammalleri – Iginla

Bärtschi – Cervenka – Hudler

Glencross – Backlund – Stempniak

Comeau – Stajan – Jackman when they need more offense

Jones – Stajan – Jackman when it’s defense they want to key on. With Byron, Bouma and Horak as depth options, and I know they plan to give Akim Aliu a closer look in camp thanks to his successful cup of coffee with the team late in the season.

The debate in Detroit? Where will Teemu Pulkkinen play? The prospect must play in Finland if he does not make the Red Wings. He can’t play in the AHL until 2013-14.

The Mike Modano comeback rumor was one big series of mistakes, involving an old article rearing its head. Details here. Started with what I’m interpreting as a sportsnet guy wanting to break some news that he – or his office - found on Rotoworld (news that was two years old and had inadvertently popped up).

There, now I need another rumor to make up and then explain away. Pad these ramblings a little. So yeah, that Dominik Hasek comeback story? Completely fake. What? Oh, that was real? Oy.

Two details of the NHL’s CBA proposal that I didn’t catch earlier, or they slipped out later – the league wants to eliminate signing bonuses, and each year of a contract is to have equal monetary value.

Mike Green has turned down Washington’s qualifying offer. It was for one year at $5 million. The Band-Aid Boy is obviously looking for more term.

Rich Dillon has a short but good read in the DobberProspects ramblings that can be found here. He looks at the Minnesota Wild.

Mike Green highlights, in case some of us have forgotten how good he can be…

Flames lines Sorry missed this in my first comments maybe because there was a rambling about the flames that didn't include bashing themsmilies/cheesy.gif

Those are pretty much the lines that most fans have at the moment but it doesn't give any of the up and comers much incentive. The Flames do seem to have too many wingers but who do you move out? Not Cammaleri, Tanguay, Iginla, Glencross(good cap hit for his production), not Hudler, Sempniak, Comeau (all signed this off season) or Jones (signed this off season and probably wanted to play up the middle where he had so much success last year until injury).
Maybe Jackman but he was a resign and the only heavy hitter on the team (and that's not saying much), probably Stajan but we are weak up the middle as it is.

Still plenty of time until opening day but lots of questions still to be answered.

CBA Seems like there is lots of wiggle room on the NHL's demands, give and take could get this done on time it just depends how hard ball each side wants to be.

... On Green: standard operating procedure. McPhee says that negotiations with Green and Carlson are going well.

On the CBA: something very important that haven't been brought up here is that the owners want to redefine what constitutes hockey related revenue, which would lower the players' share even further.

Pulkkinen to clarify (correcting that writer) Pulkkinen could have played in the AHL right after he was drafted. It's just the player's decision whether or not to play Europe or AHL until age 22. He will be back in Finland next year for sure though as he is definitely not ready for the NHL (maybe will never be fully ready).
