Fantasy Impact: Looking to make Ray Whitney feel young again, the Dallas Stars have signed winger Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million. The move makes Whitney the second oldest player on the team, by about three months.
The Stars get: a first ballot Hall-of-Famer still capable of 60 points. But Jagr is probably not capable of playing 70 games anymore. His body is breaking down, as we saw with the many groin injuries from last season.
Fantasy Players Impacted: His fantasy value is going up and down like a yo-yo with each move Dallas makes, but this time Michael Ryder's value goes down for good. Now that they have Jagr, Whitney, Jamie Benn, Derek Roy, Brenden Morrow and Loui Eriksson - guess who is out of the top six and first two PP units?
Jagr is certainly an upgrade to Ryder on that second line, which only helps the likes of Roy. Both Whitney and Eriksson are too well established to be negatively impacted by this.
Fantasy Players this helps, in order: 1. Jagr 2. Roy
Fantasy Players this hurts, in order: 1. Ryder 2. Morrow 3. Reilly Smith

... I think Tomas Vincour could be a long term winner, too. Czech connection. My lines: Whitney-Benn-Jagr (easy minutes) Eriksson-Roy-Ryder (tougher minutes) Eriksson and Whitney could change. |

Voracek? Wouldn't this also help, barring a trade to fill the hole, whichever Flyer slides into that open 1st line wing spot beside Giroux? (AKA I own Voracek and want him in that spot! ) |

Top 6 - meh I think you guys worry too much about which of these guys are going to be out of the top 6. Realistically, after the first month of Hockey, one of Jagr, Whitney, Morrow, Benn will be out of the lineup, which means Ryder will spend the majority of his season within the top 6. |

Ryder I could see Morrow sliding down to the 3rd line and Ryder still getting top 6 minutes and solid PP time. Ryder -scored 35 goals (leading the team by 9 goals) -1st in PPG (T-3rd in PPP) -4th on team scoring (1 point behind both Benn and Ribeiro) -Team leader in shots -2nd in GWG -2nd in +/- -played all 82 games and was one of the best Star players and yet you think he is going to be buried?!! That's ridiculous. This hurts Morrow more than Ryder and his bottom 6 fate has now been sealed. Use the Frozen Tools, they're quite helpful in situations like this. EV BENN,JAMIE - ERIKSSON,LOUI - RYDER,MICHAEL 18 29.03% EV ERIKSSON,LOUI - RIBEIRO,MIKE - RYDER,MICHAEL 16 25.81% PP ERIKSSON,LOUI - RIBEIRO,MIKE - RYDER,MICHAEL 5 8.06% I really can't see a team bury their biggest scoring threat, 2nd best offensive player (from last year) and Eriksson's regular linemate. Morrow will fill in for Ott on the 3rd line, worry about defensive minutes and being a leader. *i own Ryder and just resigned him so this one hurt but i think he will prevail with Jagr and Morrow sitting on the IR most of the year next season. |
